The Minnesota Golden Gophers will take on the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday Afternoon, February 25, 2018 in a BIG TEN Conference matchup. The game is being played at the Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana it will tip off at approximately 4:00 PM ET.
This will be the second time this year that the Boilermakers and Golden Gophers have faced each other this year. In the first matchup, the Boilermakers totally dominated Minnesota, winning the game 81-47. Over the last 10 games between these two teams, Purdue holds the edge going 7-3 SU and 7-2-1 ATS.
Bookmaker has made Purdue the 17.5 point favorites in the game and have set the total number for the over/under at 150.5 points.
Minnesota Head Coach In Hot Water
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are in even .500 team with a record 15-15 overall. They are 4-13 in the Big Ten, which puts them in 11th place in the Conference. They ended a 9 game losing streak on Wednesday night with 86-82 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Will now look to wrap up the season above .500 but in doing so they will need to be Purdue Boilermakers, who are the #9 team in the country. It's hard to believe that Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino is not on the hot seat after a season filled with controversy and injury. The Golden gophers or 13-3 when they lost to starters in Amir Coffey and Reggie Lynch. They have since gone 2-12 and the Minnesota fan base is calling for Pitino's head on a silver platter!
Pitino is in his 5th season and has only made the NCAA tournament one time but more important than the coaching ability of the team on the court is his ability to handle the extracurricular activities that have happened with the team. Many high ranking officials in the Minnesota organization are questioning why Pitino would allow Reggie Lynch to play basketball while facing multiple sexual assault accusations. I think it's safe to say that Pitino must have it in the back of his mind that the admin is looking at him with a microscope!
Purdue Back On Track After 40 Point Game From Edwards
The Purdue Boilermakers enter the final game of the regular season off back-to-back wins for Penn State and Illinois after dropping 3 straight which saw them go from the #2 team in the nation down to #9. Those 3 losses came against Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin by a total of 8 combined points.
I've said it before and I will say it again, Purdue is a very dangerous team and one that should not be overlooked! They have a pair of 7 foot monsters that are hard to go around and very difficult to score on, in Isaac Haas and Matt Harms, and a pair of leading scores in Carson Edwards and Vincent Edwards that are shooting nearly 50% from the floor.
In their last game, the Boilermakers went on the road and beat Illinois by the score of 93-86. In that game Carson Edwards had a monster game posting 40 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Purdue Ends Regular Season With Win
This is another one of those games where we have one team headed to the big tournament while the other one has nothing to play for. Purdue knows that this game is oh so important and they simply cannot afford to lose another game in the regular season. Another loss would have drastic ramifications on their tournament seeding and therefore I'm looking for a monster game from the Boilermakers.
Pick: Purdue Boilermakers -17.5 for 2 units
