Two teams that are stuck in neutral but very much alive in the National League East division race will begin a four-game weekend series when the Philadelphia Phillies host the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park. The Braves have alternated losses and wins over their last five games, while the Phillies have lost two in a row after winning two in a row.
MyBookie has a moneyline on this game of Atlanta -140, while Philadelphia checks in at +120. The Braves are favored by 1.5 runs, and the over/under is 8.5.
Atlanta Braves Betting Preview: Need a Hot Streak
The Atlanta Braves come into play with a record of 46-48, good for third place in the National League East, 4.5 games behind the New York Mets. The Braves are coming off a series where they split two games with the San Diego Padres. Prior to that, they had lost two of three to the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Braves need to go on a consistent hot streak to have a chance to make a run at the Mets. They are hoping that run starts Thursday when they send right-hander Charlie Morton to the mound to open things up with the Phillies. Morton has a record of 8-3 this season with a 3.69 ERA. In 105 innings, he has struck out 122 hitters, walked 36, and allowed 10 home runs. In his previous outing, Morton was decent, going six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked three in a 7-6 Braves loss to Tampa Bay.
Offensively, the Braves are hitting .239 as a team, good for eighth in the National League. Their leading hitter is first baseman Freddie Freeman, who is hitting .284 with 22 home runs and 55 RBI. Right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr., who is lost for the season with a knee injury, still leads the team with 24 home runs, and second baseman Ozzie Albies leads the team with 63 RBI.
Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview: Division Lead is Within Reach
The Philadelphia Phillies come into play with a record of 47-47, good for second place in the National League, 3.5 games behind the Mets in the division race. The Phillies remain in striking distance of the division lead, despite having lost two in a row. This came on the heels of them winning two of three over Miami last weekend.
The Phillies are another team that is loaded with talent but just can’t seem to put it together for extended periods of time. They are hoping this changes beginning Thursday when they send lefthander Matt Moore to the mound. Moore has a record of 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA. In 36 innings, Moore has struck out 33 hitters, walked 17, and has allowed seven home runs. In his previous outing, Moore went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out nine and walked none in a 5-2 Phillies victory over Miami.
Offensively, the Phillies are hitting .240 as a team, good for seventh in the National League. Their leading hitter is right fielder Bryce Harper, who is hitting .287 with 15 home runs and 35 RBI. Doing the majority of the heavy lifting for the Phillies’ lineup is first baseman Rhys Hoskins, who has hit 21 home runs and has driven in 57 runs.
Betting Lines and Predictions
MyBookie has a moneyline on this game of Atlanta -140, while Philadelphia checks in at +120. The Braves are favored by 1.5 runs, and the over/under is 8.5. This game will feature a good pitching matchup as both teams look to get some consistency going for the stretch run.
Morton has been good all season, while Moore has been decent recently. With that being said, with the Phillies being at home, it is good value to take them.
