MLB Betting Preview: Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals – Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019

by Ayden Fahlstrom | October 29, 2019 |

The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon. Both of these teams look like playoff teams in the National League, but there is still some work to be done by the Nationals. Atlanta has already wrapped up a playoff berth in the National League, but they are playing to improve their playoff seeding.

Atlanta has a commanding lead in the NFC East, and they look like a legitimate World Series contender. The Braves come into this game with a record of 93-57, and have dominated the Nationals in this series.

Washington comes into this game with a record of 81-66, but they have been struggling a bit of late. The Nationals still hold the top spot in the Wild Card race, but there are several teams that are closing fast.

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

Max Fried will take the ball for the Braves in this game, and that should make Atlanta fans happy. Fried comes into this game with a record of 16-5 and has a 4.02 earned run average to go along with that.

The Braves have a terrific starting rotation, and that has been the key to them reaching the playoffs this season.

Ronald Acuna leads the Braves with 39 home runs this season, but Freddie Freeman is the clear leader on offense for Atlanta. Freeman leads the team with a .299 batting average to go along with a team-high 117 runs batted in. The Braves have developed one of the best offenses in the entire National League.

Washington Nationals Betting Preview

Speaking of offense, the Washington Nationals have been getting plenty of it despite losing Bryce Harper in the offseason. Washington has struggled to score in this series, but their offense is one of the best in the NL this season. Third baseman Anthony Rendon is leading the team with a .331 batting average to go along with 118 runs batted in. The Nationals are going to find some offense at some point.

Anibal Sanchez will make the start for the Nationals in this game, and he has given Washington some mixed results. Sanchez is 8-8 with a 4.04 earned run average this season, but has lost his last two starts. The Nationals also have one of the worst bullpens in baseball, and will need a solid start from Sanchez in this one.

There aren’t many games in Major League Baseball that have meaning for both teams, but this is one of them. The Atlanta Braves are playing for playoff seeding, while the Washington Nationals are still trying to reach the playoffs.

These are two of the best teams in the National League, and this should be an extremely competitive game. The pitching matchup favors the Atlanta Braves in a big way, and that should give them all the advantage they need.

Atlanta just has too much offense and a dynamite pitcher on the mound to lose this game.
