The Boston Red Sox will host the Los Angeles Dodgers in a rematch of the 2018 World Series, won by Boston.
The Dodgers look like a solid bet to be back in the World Series again this season, but the Red Sox have some work to do in the final 2.5 months of the season.
There will be plenty of star power on the diamond when these two storied franchises do battle on Friday night.
Boston won the final four games before the All Star break to improve their record to 49-41 on the season. The Red Sox still find themselves in third place in the AL East, and trail the New York Yankees by nine games.
The Dodgers are running away with the NL West Division, and have built up a 13.5 game lead. Los Angeles did lose the final three games before the All Star break. LA Dodgers are favored at -115 in the series opener against the Boston Red Sox.
Boston Starting to Score Runs
The Boston Red Sox struggled to score runs early in the season, but that appears to be a thing of the past. Boston scored 33 runs in their last four games, and still has plenty of talent in their lineup.
Rafael Devers is leading the team with 112 hits and a .324 batting average this season and has proven to be a tough out. J.D. Martinez leads the team with 18 home runs, but the Red Sox have plenty of power hitters that can all leave the yard.
Left hander Eduardo Rodriguez will get the ball on Friday night, and he has pitched well for the Red Sox this season. Rodriguez comes into this game with a record of 9-4 to go along with a respectable 4.65 earned run average.
The lefty has won five of his last six decisions, and left handed pitchers usually fare well against the Dodgers terrific lineup.
Maeda Makes Start For Dodgers
The Dodgers had three pitchers take the mound in the All Star Game on Tuesday night, and it’s going to affect their rotation this weekend.
Kenta Maeda will make the start in the series opener, and will try to slow down a red-hot Red Sox lineup. Maeda has gone 7-5 with a 3.76 ERA so far this season, but has lost his last three decisions.
Los Angeles has a ton of big bats in their lineup, but there is no doubt about who is the biggest star. Cody Bellinger is leading the team with 30 homers and 71 runs batted in to go along with an impressive .336 batting average.
If the Red Sox try to pitch around Bellinger then Max Muncy and Joc Pederson will be ready to take advantage. Few teams have been able to figure out a way to slow down the Dodgers this season.
Red Sox Win Fifth Straight Game
The Red Sox are dodging a bullet in this game as the Dodgers will be pitching their number four starter. Boston appeared to be turning things around before the break, and that momentum should carry over into this series.
Many people have counted the Red Sox out, but a solid performance in this series will get people back on their side. Bet the Boston Red Sox -108 over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
