Reds Hold Accolade of Being NL’s Worst Team
The Cincinnati Reds come into their game on Wednesday Night with the Kansas City Royals as the worst team in the National League. They are 23-43 and 16.5 games back of the Chicago Cubs for the top spot in the NL Central Division. The Reds have lost six of their last ten games overall and two out of their last three games overall. The Reds don’t necessarily have a bad lineup. They are hitting the ball fairly decent but their issue is the fact that they have positively no pitching. They are holding a 5.00 team era, which is the worst in the Nationals League and basically can’t stop teams from teeing off on their terrible pitching staff.
Tyler Mahle will take the mound for the Reds on Wednesday. Mahle will be making his 14th start of the season for the Reds and currently has a 4-6 record on the mound. Mahle has a 4.33 ERA, allowing 72 hits and 33 earned runs over 68.2 innings on the mound. In his last start, Mahle went 5 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs against the Colorado Rockies. Mahle did not factor into the decision for the Reds and will look to get back on track with a win over the Royals on Wednesday.
Royals Pitching Staff Is The Worst In The Majors
The Kansas City Royals are sitting in last place in the American League Central Division but are just 1 game shy of moving up to the 4th spot in the division. They have lost 7 out of their last 8 games overall and are currently 21 games under .500. Very much like the Reds, they are hitting the ball well but are not getting any type of production out of their pitching staff. The Royals pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.29, which is the worst among all MLB teams. They are truly bad and no team is worst than they have been this year.
The Royals will send Jason Hammel to the mound to make his 14th start of the year on Wednesday. Hammel is 2-6 on the season with a 5.12 ERA. He has allowed 90 hits for 44 earned runs over 77.1 innings for the Royals. The 35 year old pitcher lost his last outing against the Oakland A’s on Thursday, lasting 6 innings but giving up 8 hits and 3 earned runs in the Royals loss to Oakland.
Two Terrible Pitchers Face Off Against Each Other
You could realistically flip a coin to determine who is the worst team here, the Reds or Royals. Both teams have a terrible pitcher on the mound and both teams are hitting the ball well. That tells me that we need to ignore who will win and play the over here! Both squads can score runs and both of these teams are allowing their opponent to score runs by the handfuls. That is my evidence to believe that this one should be high scoring. The line is currently sitting at 9.5 runs and since we don’t lay half runs here at the Spooky Express, we recommend you buy the line down to 9 and roll with this game to play over the posted total.
Pick: Cincinnati vs. KC Over 9 runs for 4 units (Buy it down)
