Quick Pick: NY Mets vs. Colorado Rockies Over 11
The New York Mets will take on the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, June 21, 2018 in a National League matchup in the MLB. This game is being played at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado with the first pitch scheduled to take place at 3:10 PM ET.
BetOnline has set the moneyline at Colorado Rockies -132 and New York Mets +122, with the total for the over under play at 11 runs. This is the second series of the year between the Rockies and the Mets. In the first series, played on May 4 to May 6, the Rockies went into the Big Apple and swept the New York Mets in three games.
Mets Seem To Be Back Scoring Runs
The New York Mets have really struggled over the past month, mainly with scoring runs however in their last few games, they have found ways to score some runs. In the first 5 games of this 10 games stretch, they only were able to score a total of 10 runs total but in their last 5 games, they have scored 33 runs. This has been the issue with the Mets throughout the season as they are a very streaky team. Many will recall that the Mets won 11 out of their first 12 games to start the season, posting a new record for their best start to the season in franchise history but that quickly went south as this team has since gone 20-38 since that time.
The Mets will send Steven Matz to the mound on Thursday for his 14th start of the 2018 season. Matz is 3-4 on the year with a 3.31 ERA over 65.1 innings on the mound. Matz won his last start, last into the 7th inning and allowing just six hits for one earned run in the win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Matz came into that game after having his last start pushed off due to a blister on his hand. Matz did not show any signs of the injury flaring up and should be good to go for this game against the Rockies.
Rockies Fall From 1st To 4th Place In NL West Division
Just two weeks ago, the Colorado Rockies were in first place in the National League West Division but have since fallen to fourth place in the division after going just 3-7 in their last ten games. The Rockies have now fallen behind the Arizona Diamondbacks, LA Dodgers and San Francisco Giants in the division. The problem with the Rockies recently has been the fact that they are allowing a ton of runs in each game. In just their last ten games, they have allowed 79 runs, which is an average of nearly 8 runs per game. No team in the majors can expect to win games, knowing they are allowing this many runs in each game.
Kyle Freeland will make his 15th start of the year for the Rockies. Freeland is 6-6 on the season with a 3.59 ERA. In his last start, Freeland went seven innings and allowed eight hits and allowed two earned runs in the no decision against the Texas Rangers. Freeland has been getting long innings during his games but he is getting pounded by opposition.
Rockies and Mets Play High Scoring Game
The Mets have somehow turned their scoring inability around and are putting up some runs on the board lately. They get a easy matchup where they will face Freeland, who has been giving up a ton of hits and runs on a nightly basis. In addition, they are playing this game in Colorado at Coors Field, which we all know gives up a ton of runs. In addition, the Rockies will be facing off against Matz, who also has a tendency to get sloppy and allow some runs. This game is a premium play for the over.
- Pick: NY Mets vs. Colorado Rockies Over 11 for 3.5 units
