It has been nothing but tough sledding for Marlins this year after their fire sale, following Derek Jeter and his team taking over the organization. They got rid of Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, and Marcell Ozuna, the biggest producers from last year, and the product has been as expected. A 4-12, struggling team.
The Yankees on the other hand, have been decent, but nowhere near as good as many expected them to be. Giancarlo Stanton has continuously been striking out and then getting booed by the Yankee faithful. Middiling around .500, they just have not had the production many of us expected. They are listed as -275 favorites in most sportsbooks if you are looking to bet on them today.
Miami Marlins (4-12)
Justin Bour and Brian Anderson have both done a good job of driving in runs this year, knocking in a combined 46.6% of their total runs. That is a stat you don’t want to have, with two players providing most all of your offense. They are allowing a shade under six runs per game and have struggled to get guys out. No pitcher (except for today’s starter) has been spared from this poor struggle of a season.
They will send Jarlin Garcia to the mound for his fourth start of the season. He has been the ace of the staff to this point, allowing just 2 runs over 16 innings, while striking out 11. He is coming off a performance against the Mets last week where he pitched 6 no-hit innings, while walking 2 and striking out 3. They will need him today.
New York Yankees (8-7)
Didi Gregorious and Aaron Judge have both been swinging red hot bats, keeping the Yankees floating around .500 to this point. Though he has a poor average, Gary Sanchez has done a great job knocking in runs, including a 2-home-run performance against the Red Sox at Fenway Park last week. Offense has been their big weapon.
They will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound for his fourth start of the 2018 season. He allowed 6 runs in 5 innings of work against the Red Sox last week, while walking 2 and striking out 3. He was decent in his two prior starts, so the Yankees will be looking for the “good” Tanaka tonight.
Yankees reel in Marlins
I’m feeling good about the Yankees chances in this game. They are a dominant offensive team, and Tanaka will have a large cushion in front of him. They will be bashing home runs left and right, allowing him more than enough breathing room.
I’m not feeling good about the Marlins offense, and it is this that will cost them. The Yankees are listed as -275 favorites in most sportsbooks if you are looking to place a bet today.
