It’s a light card to start the week, and the latest matchup on the slate features the Miami Marlins (47-65, 20-38 Away) opening a three-game series with the San Diego Padres (64-49, 38-23 Home) on Monday. First pitch from Petco Park is scheduled for 10:10 pm EST.
This is the second and final series of the season between these two after they split a four-game set in south Florida a little over two weeks ago.
Monday’s series opener will feature a pitching matchup between Miami’s Zach Thompson and San Diego’s Joe Musgrove.
Miami Marlins Betting Preview: Rockie Road
The Marlins head to the West Coast after a rough series with the Rockies in which they were swept out of Colorado and have now lost eight of their last 11 games. Entering the series at Coors Field, Miami had scored more runs than they allowed but left the Mile High with a negative run differential after giving up 34 runs in the three-game series.
The Rockies launched six home runs against Marlins pitching over the weekend, and to add injury to insult, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was a late scratch from Sunday’s lineup due to flu-like symptoms. Jorge Alfaro had to leave the finale in the middle of a plate appearance in the third inning due to shortness of breath, and Miguel Rojas was ejected for arguing a check-swing call. Not the best way to spend a weekend in Denver.
San Diego Padres Betting Preview: Opportunity Knocking
The Padres are in the midst of a 13-game stretch against three of the four worst teams in the National League. They just took two of three from the Diamondbacks and now will host the fish before another four-game set with the D-backs and a series with the Rockies.
This is the time for San Diego to make up ground in the NL West, as they currently sit 7.5 back of the division-leading Giants heading into the week.
Blake Snell turned in a top-notch performance Sunday, fanning 13 Diamondbacks a new career-high. The Pads will need efforts like that down the stretch if they expect to contend in October.

This is a pitching rematch from July 23, when San Diego won 5-2. Musgrove allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk with 4 strikeouts in 6 innings to earn the win. Meanwhile, Thompson gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings while taking the loss.
Musgrove, who has only allowed 3 runs and 11 hits over his last three starts, is 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA in two career starts against the Marlins.
The Padres are 6-1 in their last seven games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and will make it 7-1 Monday rather easily.
