MLB Betting Preview: Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees – Thursday, June 10, 2021

by Ayden Fahlstrom | June 10, 2021 |

The Yankees (33-29) will look to finish off a series sweep against the Twins (24-37) after winning the first two games of the series. New York’s offense has reemerged, putting up 17 runs in the two games.

Giancarlo Stanton was 3 for 5 with a double and two home runs in the victory. Aaron Judge and Miguel Andujar also went deep for the Yankees, while Jorge Polanco had a two homer game for the Twins.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

While there is still plenty of season to play, New York really needed to bounce back after being swept by the Red Sox and losing the last game of the series against the Rays for a four-game losing streak.

The Yankees are in third place, 5.5 games behind Tampa Bay and four games behind Boston for second place. New York has a run differential of +3, which is fourth in the division.

The biggest issue for the Yankees has been a lack of offense. New York is 24th in the league in runs with only 240. Luckily for the Yankees, the pitching staff is keeping them afloat as they rank top ten in almost every category.

Michael King (0-3, 3.62 ERA) will make his third start of the season for New York. King has thrown 27 ⅓ innings allowing 25 hits, ten walks, and 11 earned runs. He has a WHIP of 1.28 and has stuck out 25.

New York hitters have had a lot of success off former teammate J.A. Happ. They have combined for an OPS of .863 in 110 plate appearances. Judge and Stanton both have OPSs above 1.400 and have homered twice off of Happ.

Minnesota Twins Betting Preview

There is no way around it; the Twins have been a massive disappointment this season. Minnesota was supposed to compete with the White Sox and Indians for the AL Central crown. They currently sit in dead last, 13 games under .500.

While the offense has been above average, the pitching staff has been one of the worst in the league. They rank 27th in ERA and quality starts, 26th in batting average against, and 21st in WHIP.

Happ (3-2, 5.61 ERA) has had a frustrating season. He has thrown 51 ⅓ innings allowing 52 hits, 16 walks, and 32 earned runs. He is coming off one of his worst starts of the season, where he allowed nine hits, 5 earned runs, and three home runs in only five innings against the Royals.

Twins hitters have combined for an OPS of .741. Nelson Cruz leads all qualifying players with an OPS of .850. He has ten home runs and leads the team in batting average, on-base percentage, and hits.

Minnesota hitters have never faced King.

Yankees vs. Twins Betting Odds & Lines

Mybookie has the Yankees as a small favorite at -135. The total is set at 10.5 runs.

Neither of these pitchers is going to be able to shut down the opponent, which is why the total is at 10.5, which is almost unheard of. The Yankees seem to be turning the corner offensively, and with Judge and Stanton’s past success against Happ, I like them to complete the sweep of the Twins.

I am on New York -135 and recommend getting it early as I expect the number to get to -150 by the first pitch.
