The New York Mets (11-11, 5-7 away) and the St. Louis Cardinals (16-12, 7-6 home) begin a four-game series Monday night in National League play. Monday’s contest will be the first time the two teams have faced each other this season.

Monday’s first pitch is at 7:45 p.m. EST inside Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO. BetOnline.ag has the Cardinals favored on the money line (-119) and the total at 8.5 runs.

New York Mets Betting Preview: Can the Mets Win Three Straight?

The Mets head to St. Louis after a pair of one-run victories over the weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies. New York had lost three in a row before the two-game winning streak. The Mets and Washington Nationals are tied in the NL East standings.

Lefty Joey Lucchesi (0-1, 6.75 ERA, 1.13 WHIP) is getting called up from the Mets alternate site for the spot-start in Monday’s contest. Lucchesi was sent to the alternate site last week after making two starts and three appearances for the Mets earlier this season. The 27-year old has logged 8.0 innings of work with 11 strikeouts.

New York is last in league with 63 runs scored (3.0 per game) and hit .232 as a team. Brandon Nimmo is off to a good start as a bright spot in the Mets lineup. Nimmo leads the team in hits (21) and batting average (.318).

St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview: Cardinals Try to Continue Winning Ways

St. Louis sputtered out of the game, but as the weather’s warmed up, so has the Cardinals’ offense and winning ways. The Cardinals have won five of their last six games and positioned themselves one-game back of first base in the NL Central.

The veteran Adam Wainright (0-3, 4.08 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) steps onto the mound for the Cardinals. Wainwright tossed a two-run complete game his last time out. The 39-year old scattered six hits, two earned runs, with eight strikeouts.

Offensively, the Cardinals average 3.8 runs while hitting .230 as a team. Tommy Edman leads the Cardinals in hits (33) and batting average (.287). Offseason signee Nolan Arenado leads the team in runs driven in (18).

Both teams played well over the weekend and carry some momentum into a new week. St. Louis looks to take its winning streak to five games and maintain its position near the top of the NL Central.

New York continues to rely on its pitching earlier in the season while the hitters try to find something at the plate. Lucchesi lasted only 3.0 innings in his last start and will need to provide the Mets with more innings if they want a shot at beating the Cardinals. We don’t see that happening Monday night.
