This is the second Interleague series between the Yankees and Nationals this year. These two teams just placed each other last week, with each team winning one game of a two game series.
Nationals Battling To Get Back In First Place In NL East Division
The Washington Nationals are in the midst of a heated battle for the top spot in the National League East Division. They are 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves and have a 1.5 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies within the division. Washington had the lead in the division for a brief moment but have gone 4-6 in their last ten games and have fallen to second place. The Nationals are led on offense by MVP candidate Bryce Harper. Harper has hit 19 home runs and drove in 43 RBI’s on the year.
In the second game of the double header, the Nationals will send Erick Fedde to the mound for his third start of the year. Fedde has a 0-1 record with a 5.91 ERA in 2018. He has lasted 10.2 innings in his prior two starts and has allowed twelve hits and seven earned runs in the two starts. Both of his starts this year have been mirror images of each other, with both starts going at least five innings and allowing six hits in each game. He allowed three earned runs in his loss against the San Diego Padres and four earned runs in the no decision against the New York Yankees.
Yankees Rookie Torres Is Hot!!!
The New York Yankees are in first place in the American League East Division and are one game ahead of the Boston Red Sox for the top spot in the division. They have been one of the hottest teams in the American League, winning eight of their last ten games overall. The Yankees have been battling some injuries within their pitching staff but they have still found ways to win with one of the best lineups in baseball.
The Yankees have one of the hottest young talents in baseball with Gleyber Torres. Torres has absolutely been on fire lately, hitting three home runs in his last seven games and 13 since he came into the league in April. Torres has hit more home runs in such a short period of time, more than both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, and his upside for the future is immense.
Sonny Gray will get the nod for the Yankees on Monday in game two of the double header. Gray is 4-4 on the season and will be making his 14th start for the Evil Empire. Gray has a 4.98 ERA over 68.2 innings on the mound and has allowed 70 hits and 38 earned runs. Gray has not factored into the decision in his last two starts, giving up seven hits and four earned runs against the Washington Nationals and going eight innings of shutout baseball against the Toronto Blue Jays but still failing to get the win.
Yankees Win Opener At Home
The Yankees faced Fedde last week and this will be the second time in a five day stretch of games that they will face the young pitcher. The first time a pitcher faces a team, I give him the advantage but when he faces the same team in such a short period of time, the advantage goes to the offensive lineup. I like the Yankees here to win big!
Pick: New York Yankees -126 for 2 units
