BetDSI has the Washington Nationals listed as -135 money line favorites over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Washington Nationals enter this game winners of three of their last five including a 3-1 series win over the weekend at home against the Miami Marlins that concluded on Sunday with a 2-10 loss.
The Pittsburgh Pirates enter this game losers of three of their last five and have split the first two games of this series winning the first game and losing the second game on Tuesday. Let’s take a closer look at these two teams and we’ll start with the underdog Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates are 42-49 overall and 23-24 at home. The Pirates are a rebuilding team and nobody really gave them a chance to compete this season and even though they started the season off strong they are starting to resemble the team everyone thought they would be this season. They are currently seven games below .500 and are in 4th place in the NL Central behind the Brewers, Cubs, Cardinals, and Pirates and trail the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers by 12.5 games.
Pittsburgh is 23-24 at home, 21-27 after a loss, 24-32 in non-divisional games and 18-27 as underdogs. Trevor Williams will take the mound on Wednesday for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Williams is 6-7 on the season with a 4.60 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 94 innings pitched. Gregory Polanco leads the team in home runs and RBIs with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs. Starling Marte leads the team in runs with 47. Pittsburgh is averaging 4.38 runs per game which ranks 17th in the MLB. The Pirates are allowing 4.78 runs per game which ranks 22nd in the MLB.
The Nationals are 46-45 overall and 23-21 on the road. There probably isn’t a bigger disappointment so far in the MLB season than the Washington Nationals as many considered them to be one of the favorites to win the NL, but as of now it looks like they may struggle to even make the postseason. They are currently one game above .500 and are in 3rd place in the NL East behind the Phillies and Braves and trail the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies by 5.5 games.
Washington is 23-21 on the road, 25-20 after a win, 29-28 in non-divisional games and 38-33 as a favorite. Gio Gonzalez will take the mound on Wednesday for the Washington Nationals. Gonzalez is 6-5 on the season with a 3.76 ERA with 90 strikeouts over 95 2/3rd innings pitched. Bryce Harper leads the team in home runs, RBIs and runs with 22 home runs, 51 RBIs and 56 runs. Washington is averaging 4.39 runs per game which ranks 15th in the MLB. The Nationals are allowing 4.09 runs per game which ranks 9th in the MLB.
Washington wins the series with a win on Wednesday
The Nationals are starting to feel the pressure as they are 5.5 games back of the Phillies for the lead in the NL East a division which many believed was already locked in to having the Nationals win it. I still think the Nationals win it and will have a strong second half to the season after the All-Star Break. I look for Gonzalez to look dominant against the Pirates in a win on Wednesday which will give the Nationals the series win at 2-1. Make sure to bet this match-up on BetDSI.
