Tampa Bay will look to find its stride in the final weeks of the season to get ready for the playoffs. The Rays could only take 2 of 4 from the Red Sox and saw the White Sox pass them for the best record in the American League.
Tampa Bay still holds a 3.5 game in the AL East over the Blue Jays and 4 games over the Yankees. The defending World Series champs are in last place in the NL East and limping to the finish.
Nationals Looking Toward 2021
Washington is hoping that Anibal Sanchez (2-4, 6.81 ERA) luck against the Rays continues. Sanchez has had a terrible season, but looked good last week against Washington as he led them to a 5-3 victory.
Sanchez has thrown 38 ⅓ innings allowing a WHIP of 1.75. He has given up 9 home runs and has allowed 55 hits this season.
Washington hitters have not seen much of Tampa Bay opener John Curtiss. They have only 6 plate appearances with one hit. Adam Eaton is 1 for 1 with a double.
Rays Look to Regain Momentum Heading into Home Stretch
Tampa Bay’s bullpen let them down against Boston. It is extremely surprising considering the Rays have had one of the strong bullpens in all of baseball. Pete Fairbanks, who has been as reliable as they come, took the loss in both games against Boston.
The Rays will have Curtiss (3-0, 1.53 ERA) as the opener. This will be Curtiss’ second time as an opener this season, but he does have 13 appearances out of the bullpen.
Rays hitters have really struggled against Sanchez. The veteran right hander has held them to an OPS of .495 in 42 plate appearances. Kevin Kiermaier has been one of the few who have figured Sanchez out as he is 3 for 9 with a double and a triple.
Nationals/Rays Betting Lines
Mybookie has Tampa Bay as the favorite at -170. The total is set at 9 runs.

Anibal Sanchez seems to have the Rays number for whatever reason. Getting a look at him just last week should help Tampa Bay hitters figure him out.
I do think this is a low scoring game as the Rays ultimately take it on a bullpen day. The best bet here is to take the under 9.
