MLB Playoff Picks and Preview

Tonight, we have four MLB Playoff games in the American League Divisional Series and National League Divisional Series. Yesterday, the New York Mets took a 2-1 lead in their series with the Philadelphia Phillies, and the San Diego Padres took a 2-1 lead over the LA Dodgers.

Today, they will try to close out the series and head to the National League Championship game by winning the best-of-5 series. On the other hand, the American League series is tied up at 1-1 each, so we at least have two more games in that series.

Now, without further delay, let’s jump into some notes from these four games.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Detroit Tigers

This series has been won in shutout fashion in games 1 and 2. Cleveland kicked off the series by winning 7-0 in game 1, but Detroit came back nicely in game 2, winning 3-0 on Monday Night.

Now, the series shifts to Detroit, and while the game is just hours away, we still don’t know who the Tigers’ starter will be. For Cleveland, we will see Alex Cobb make his fourth start of the year.

Cleveland has gone 2-1 with Cobb on the mound, and he has improved with each start. His last appearance came on September 1, when the Guardians beat Pittsburgh 6-1.

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets are one game away from sending their fans into a tizzy! If they win this, they are headed to the NL Championship game and New York would be rocking!

The Mets will be sending Jose Quintana to the mound on Wednesday, hoping to continue his successful pithcing ways. He was stellar in his Wild Card matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he went 6 innings and only give up 4 hits of shutout baseball.

For the Phillies, they will send Ranger Suarez to the mound. There was a stretch of games where Suarez made us some serious money! The Phillies won 13 of Suarez’s first 14 appearances but here recently, they’ve struggled with him on the mound.

In his last 10 starts, the Phillies have gone 3-7 and in his last game, he only lasted 2 innings against the Washington Nationals, where he gave up 7 hts for 6 earned runs.

Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees

In the second AL Divisional matchup, the Yankees will travel to KC for game 3 of the series. Right-hander Clarke Schmidt will get the start for the Yankees and he has pitched well against KC. In four career games versus the Royals, Schmidt is 2-0 with a 3.29 ERA.

For the Royals, they will send Seth Lugo to the mound for his second postseason game this year. In his first trip to the mound, he beat the Baltimore Orioles by allowing just 5 hits and 1 earned run over 4.1 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres

The nightcap today will be the Dodgers—Padres Game 4 matchup. This game will start around 9:08 PM and can be seen on FS1.

The Dodgers will have Ryan Brasier on the mound to start the game as an opener, a bullpen game. In his last appearance, he was hit relatively hard by the Padres, giving up 2 earned runs, one of which was a home run, in just 0.2 innings.

The Padres will have their top dog on the mound in Dylan Cease. Cease will be looking to avenge his October 5 start, where the Dodgers had 6 hits and 5 earned runs on the All-Star pitcher.

Cease has been one of the best pitchers for the Padres this year overall, but against the Dodgers, the Padres were only 1-2 with Cease on the mound.
