Where: Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

With the regular season dwindling down we have an important matchup between Atlantic division rivals. The (43-28) Boston Celtics travel to Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on the (45-25) Philadelphia 76ers. Toronto holds a 4½ game lead over Philly and a 7 game lead over Boston in the division and does not appear likely either will catch them.
The Sixers are currently the 3rd seed in the east and have a 1½ game lead over Indiana and a 2½ game lead over Boston. Essentially this is a fight for the 3rd, 4th & 5th spots in the east. Boston has won all three games vs the Sixers so far this season.
This game is being played at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the tip-off scheduled to take place at 7:00 PM EST
BetOnline has set the point spread for this game at Philadelphia -4½ and the over/under has been set at 225½ points
Time is running out on the Celtics. This team was favored to win the East, but it has not worked out that way. Milwaukee & Toronto have taken over that position. That loss on their home court to Denver Monday night really hurt.
If Boston wants any chance of moving up to 3rd place in the east, it must start tonight with a win. More realistically they can hope for a 4th seed and worst case is to remain as the five seed. I have to question if Kyrie Irving is the right fit for this team.
Boston is scoring 112.7 ppg while giving up 107.6 points per game. Boston is led in scoring by Kyrie Irving with 23.7 points per game. Five other players are chipping in with double digits per game. The rebounding leader is Al Horford pulling down 6.7 boards a game, although two others are averaging slightly over 6 per game as well. Scoring leader Kyrie Irving also leads in assists with 7.1 dishes per game.
Boston’s 112.7 per game is good enough to rank them 12th in the league in points scored per game. Celtics are a better team defensively in points allowed per game as they are ranked number 7 in the league.
With those rankings you would think Boston would be better than what they have been. Gordon Hayward is doubtful for tonight vs the Sixers.
Last time out Philly looked incredible going into Milwaukee and beating them 130-125. It was their 4th straight win. I get the feeling that win is the one they will look back on and say it was the one that started their incredible run. Just maybe Philly has not played it’s best ball yet, and just maybe Milwaukee and Toronto already have???
Philadelphia is scoring 115.1 ppg while giving up 111.7 points per game. Joel Embiid leads the team in scoring with 27.3 ppg. The next four guys are averaging at least 17 a game, with two others adding ten a game. That is impressive! As a matter of fact that impressive group of guys are ranked 4th in the league in points scored per game.
Joel Embiid also with 13.6 boards a game is the rebounding leader. Ben Simmons is the assists leader with 7.8 per game. Defensively they are a middle of the pack team coming in at 17th. But with their offense they can get by with that.
- Boston is 1-4-1 ATS last 6 games
- Boston is 5-2 SU last 7 games
- UNDER is 10-3 last 13 Celtic road games
- Boston is 7-1 SU & ATS last 8 vs Philly
- Boston is 9-2 SU last 11 in Philly
- UNDER is 8-2 last 10 Philly games
Sixers get a little payback vs Celtics
I am sort of amazed that this line is this low, but I can understand why. Boston has owned the Sixers in recent times. Well didn’t we just see Philly snap that horrid losing streak vs OKC about a month ago? Going to happen again tonight.
I do not like the team chemistry on the Celtic team at all. Kyrie Irving is not the team leader he thought he was and wanted to be. Just when you think Boston is going to turn the corner…they screw-up. The Sixers smell blood tonight. I think they are primed to do a number on their rivals in this one. Despite the C’s recent success, the 76ers are simply the better team right now and only laying 4½ at home is a gift and I like unwrapping gifts!!
