by Mark Daloisio | March 6, 2020 |

It’s an interconference matchup when the San Antonio Spurs (26-34, 11-20 away) travel to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to take on the Brooklyn Nets (27-34, 16-14 home) between a couple of 4th place teams in their divisions.  These teams only play twice this season and the Spurs won the first game in San Antonio 118-105 covering the spread as 4 points favorites back on December 19th. San Antonio is 8-2 SU and 5-3-2 ATS the last 10 times these two have met.

San Antonio Betting Preview:

San Antonio (26-34) is in 4th place in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference 12½  games back of the 1st place Houston Rockets. They are just one game ahead of last-place New Orleans.  Despite the losing record the still have a shot at the playoffs. They currently trail the 8th seed Memphis Grizzlies by 4 games.  San Antonio is on a one-game winning streak and has gone 4-6 in their last ten games. The Spurs are 24-35-1 ATS this season and 15-15-1 ATS on the road.  The O/U is 36-23-1 this season and 20-11 when playing away from home.

San Antonio is coming off a 104-103 win at Charlotte on Tuesday but failed to cover the spread as a four-point favorite.  With coach Popovich missing the game for personal reasons, acting head coach Tim Duncan got his first victory. He found out how it is, and said afterward he has no desire to be a head coach.  The Spurs fell behind 36-19 after one quarter and got the lead to single digits at 58-49 at the half outscoring Charlotte by 8 points. The kept that momentum going into the 3rd quarter outscoring them 28-18 taking a one-point lead heading into the final quarter.

The Spurs continued to control things taking a 95-89 lead with just under 5 minutes to play when Duncan said he thought the game was over. The lead was cut to one at 104-103 and Charlotte had the ball back but threw the ball away ending the game as San Antonio hung on for the win.  The Spurs were led by DeJounte Murray with 21 points, Rudy Gay had 7 rebounds to lead the team and Demar DeRozan led the team with assists in the win.

For the season Demar DeRozan leads the team in scoring with 22.2 ppg with LaMarcus Aldridge coming in 2nd with 18.8 ppg.  DeRozan is also leading in assists with 5.4 dishes per game. Aldridge is also the leader rebounds with 7.5 a game as well as blocked shots at 1.6 a game.  DeJounte Murray is the steals leader with 1.7 a game.

San Antonio is scoring 112.7 ppg while giving up 114.3 points per game.  That offensive output has them ranked 14th in points scored per game. They are 8th in field goal percentage and 6th in three-point shooting percentage.  They are also 3rd best in free throw shooting and 16th in offensive rebounds per game. Defensively they are 23rd in points allowed per game. They are 21st in field goal percentage & 27th in three-point field goal percentage allowed and just 17th in defensive rebounds per game.

Brooklyn Betting Preview:

Brooklyn (27-34) is in 4th place in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference 16½ games back of the 1st place Toronto Raptors.  Even with the losing record they currently hold the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs by just a half-game over the 8th seed Orlando Magic, but a solid 5 game lead from falling out of the playoff race.  Brooklyn is on a one-game losing streak and has gone 4-6 in their last ten games. The Nets are 29-32 ATS this season and 16-14 ATS at home this season. The O/U has gone 30-30-1 this season and 14-15-1 when playing at home.

Brooklyn is coming off a 118-79 loss vs Memphis on Wednesday failing to cover the spread as one-point favorites.  I am trying to think of something good to say. The first quarter went well for the Nets. After that things got progressively worse for the Nets.  They were outscored by 8-10 and 12 points in the remaining three quarters.

Actually it was still just a one-point with under three minutes to play in the 2nd quarter before all the moment switched into Memphis’ favor.  Brooklyn shot just 33% from the floor and an even worse 16.7% from 3-point land in the blowout loss. Taurean Prince led the Nets with 15 points and Caris LeVert and Chris Chiozza each added 14 more. Jarrett Allen led the way with 9 rebounds while Caris LeVert led with 6 assists.

Taking a look at season leaders for the Nets, we find  Kyrie Irving leading the team with 27.4 ppg, but with him out for the season that spot now goes to Spencer Dinwiddie with 20.5 ppg.  Dinwiddie is also the assist leader with 6.7 dishes a game. DeAndre Jordan leads the way in rebounding with 9.9 boards a game. Taurean Prince is the leader in steals with 0.9 a game while Jarrett Allen leads the Nets in blocked shots swatting away 1.04 per game.

Brooklyn is scoring 110.4 ppg while giving up 111.5 points per game.  The Nets offense is ranked 20th in points scored per game. They are 26th in field goal percentage & 25th in three-point shooting percentage.

They are also just 27th in free throw shooting but 2nd in offensive rebounds per game. Defensively they are 18th in points allowed per game and 5th in field goal percentage allowed per game as well as 11th in three-point shooting percentage allowed.  They are also just 24th in defensive rebounds per game.

San Antonio is just not as good as they used to be and the line in this game tells you that.  Brooklyn just got destroyed by Memphis and are now favored over the Spurs. Another huge factor is LaMarcus Aldridge is going to miss this one for the Spurs.  With Brooklyn fighting to hang on to a playoff spot, I have to take them at home. This is a very small play for me. Two losing teams playing each other is not one of my favorite betting scenarios.
