NBA Opening Night Preview: Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks

Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks

The NBA’s Regular Season will get underway tonight with two scheduled games in the NBA Opening Night. The first game on the night will follow the raising of the banner as the Boston Celtics look to defend their NBA Championship in 2024-2025. They open the season against the New York Knicks.

This game will take place at the TD Garden Arena in Boston, Massachusetts with the tip-off scheduled for 7:30 PM ET. This game can be seen on TNT.

Our friends over at Bookmaker have made the Boston Celtics the 5.5 point home favorites with the over/under total set at 221.5.

New York Knicks Preview

The Knicks will be looking to improve on last years playoff run, as they’ve added pieces to the puzzle that they believe will get the job done. The Knicks sent Julius Randel and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns.

Towns is going to boost their presence in the paint and force teams to play big down low. They also added Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets to give them some outside shooting presence.

Bridges will join Jalen Brunson to form a very strong backcourt. Brunson had a great 2023 and ended the season finishin the Top 5 for MVP voting.

Boston Celtics Preview

The Celtics will once again be a very strong team and compete for the championship. They will return their Top 11 scorers from last year, making them one of the favorites to repeat in 2024-2025.

The Celtics will once again be led by Jayson Tatum, who last year averaged nearly 27 PPG. Boston will be without Center Kristaps Porzingis, who is once again on the sidelines with an injury.

Porzingis had offseason surgery on his leg (left) and is expected to miss the first 6-8 weeks of play.

Now, onto our free play. We are going to go with the Boston Celtics minus the 5.5. We think New York will have a good year but we don’t think they have what it takes to go on the road on opening night and knock off the defending champions.

They will score some points tonight but it won’t be enough. We like Boston to win in the opener and do so by 6 points. Give us the Boston Celtics -5.5 for a unit!
