Colorado Rockies vs New York Mets

August 8, 2024

The rubber match of a three-game series between the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies will take place on Thursday afternoon when the Mets travel to Denver, Colorado, to face the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The first pitch of Game 3 is scheduled for 3:10 PM ET and will air on the MLB Network, SNY, and Rockies TV.

New York Mets Team Preview

The New York Mets evened the series 1-1 following a 5-3 win in Game 2 on Wednesday night. The Mets scored two of the first three runs in the game. However, they were tied 2-2 entering the top of the 9th before scoring three of their five runs in the inning, which included Harrison Bader and Ben Gamel scoring off a base hit off the bat of Francisco Lindor.

Game 2 featured a pitching duel for the majority of the game, as only four runs were scored combined in the first eight innings of the game. Paul Blackburn had another solid performance on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing one run while recording six strikeouts to get his second quality start in a row.

The win improved the record for the Mets to 60-54, which puts them in 3rd place in the NL East, behind the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, while also putting them a .5 game behind the Atlanta Braves for the final Wild Card spot in the National League. The win in Game 2 ended the two-game losing streak for the Mets in the series. However, New York has lost six of the previous ten games against Colorado while being outscored by the Rockies by an average of 5.7 to 6.7 runs per game.

The New York Mets will look to win their first series this month when they travel to face the Colorado Rockies for Game 3.

Colorado Rockies Team Preview

The Colorado Rockies have been one of the worst teams in the National League this season as they enter the series finale against the New York Mets with the worst record in the NL at 42-73 and have lost three of their last four games while having been outscored by their opponents by an average of 4.25 to 5.25 runs per game during that stretch including a 3-5 loss at home in Game 2 of the series against the New York Mets.

The Rockies never led in the game against the Mets, however, were tied 2-2 after the 4th inning after Brendan Rodgers scored off a base hit from Kris Bryant and would remain tied with New York until the top of the 9th inning when Colorado would allow three runs and ultimately lose the game. The loss in Game 2 ended the two-game winning streak in the series for the Rockies against the Mets; however, Colorado outscored the Mets by an average of 5.67 to 4.33 runs per game in those contests.

The Colorado Rockies will look to win their 2nd series in their last three series when they host the New York Mets for Game 3 on Thursday afternoon.

Odds and Series Trends

JustBet has the New York Mets listed as -155 moneyline favorites on the road against the Colorado Rockies for Game 3 of the series on Thursday afternoon. Colorado has won six of the last ten by an average margin of 1 run per game and two of the previous three games in the series by an average margin of 1.33 runs per game.

Game Pick

New York has won three of the five games in the series this season against Colorado and is fighting for a spot in the National League Wild Card race. At the same time, Colorado has the worst record in the National League following the loss in Game 2 on Wednesday night. However, the Rockies have been the better team in the series, winning six of the last ten and two of the previous three matchups which is why I am taking the moneyline for the Colorado Rockies when they host the New York Mets for Game 3 of the series on Thursday afternoon.
