Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins

July 6, 2024

Game 2 of a three-game weekend series between the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at Target Field. The game will start at 2:10 PM ET on Saturday afternoon and will air on Bally Sports North and Space City Home Network.

Houston Astros Team Preview

The Houston Astros have been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the past few weeks as they have compiled a record of 15-4 over their last 19 games, which has improved their record to 46-42, putting them in 2nd place in the AL West and 2.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the final Wild Card spot in the American League.

The Astros won Game 1 of the series against the Minnesota Twins on Friday by a score of 13-12 after scoring three runs in the 2nd, 6th, 8th, and 9th innings, which included a three-run home run hit by Alex Bregman in the 9th inning which also scored Cesar Salazar and Mauricio Dubon.

The win in Game 1 was the 2nd win for the Astros in the last three games in the series, with Houston outscoring Minnesota 7 to 6 runs per game in those matchups. The Houston Astros will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they travel to face the Minnesota Twins for Game 2 of the series.

Minnesota Twins Team Preview

The Minnesota Twins are ten games above .500. They are in 2nd place in the AL Central with a record of 49-39, giving Minnesota a two-game lead over the Kansas City Royals for the final Wild Card spot in the American League.

The Twins have won four of their last six games by an average margin of 1.5 runs per game in those contests. Pablo Lopez entered the series, only allowing one run in his last 14 innings. However, Lopez had one of his worst starts of the season after pitching five innings, allowing six runs, and striking out six batters.

Minnesota almost had an epic comeback in Game 1 as they trailed 13-5 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning. However, they scored seven runs in the inning to pull within a run of the Astros, which included a grand slam hit by Carlos Correa, which also scored Brooks Lee, Christian Vazquez, and Willi Castro.

However, they would still fall one run short of tying the Astros. Minnesota has lost six of the last ten games in the series against Houston and has been outscored by the Astros by an average of 4.6 to 4.9 runs per game in those contests.

The Minnesota Twins will look to even the series at 1-1 when they host the Houston Astros for Game 2 of the series on Saturday afternoon.
