2020 Dallas Cowboys Review
The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2020 season with a record of 6-10 to finish in third place in the NL East. This was a very disappointing season for the Cowboys, but injuries played a huge role in the struggles.
Dak Prescott suffered a devastating ankle injury early in the season, and Dallas was just not able to recover. The Cowboys struggled to score points after Prescott left the lineup, and the defense was not good enough to make up for the lack of offense.
2021 Cowboys Offseason Additions
Dallas was clearly looking to improve the safety position this season, and they added a pair of free agents to help on the defensive side of the ball. Safeties Keanu Neal and Damontae Kazee are both expected to play key roles for the Cowboys in 2021.
2021 Cowboys Offseason Departures
Losing backup quarterback Andy Dalton might not seem like a big deal on the surface, but it takes away the insurance policy if Prescott were to get hurt. Dallas leaned on the veteran presence from Dalton, and this could ultimately be a massive blow.
Safety Xavier Woods has also moved on from the team, and this could be a big loss in the secondary.
Three Key Factors to a Winning Season
Elliott was expected to carry the Cowboys in 2020 after the injury to Dak Prescott, but that was not the case. His touches and yards went way down a season ago, and the Cowboys need more from their star running back.
Keeping Prescott Healthy
Quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to begin the 2021 season with the team, and that will give the Cowboys a massive boost. Prescott has been relatively healthy for much of his NFL career, and the belief is that he will be healthy again this season.
Prescott is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he can propel the Cowboys into a great season.
Dominating NFC East Opponents
There are some tough games on the 2021 schedule for the Cowboys, but that isn’t the case when it comes to facing divisional opponents. If Dallas wants to be a real threat to win the Super Bowl this season, then they need to dominate teams in the NFC East.
Rating Their Schedule
Playing six games against the NFC East has to be viewed as a win for the Cowboys as those teams will not provide a ton of competition. Outside of divisional play, the Cowboys will take on teams from the NFC South and AFC West.
Dallas begins the 2021 season in Tampa Bay for a matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Cowboys have a ton of winnable games after that matchup before taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11.
The Cowboys will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in Week 18, and this game could ultimately determine the NFC East champion in 2021.
Expectations in 2021
The Dallas Cowboys should be the best team in the NFC East this season, and it’s hard to see any team really challenging them for that title. This is not a great division, and Dallas could easily win at least five of the divisional matchups.
Look for the Cowboys to win at least 11 games in 2021, and that will have them near the top of the NFC when it comes to seeding. Dallas is still not one of the top favorites to win the conference, but they will be in the mix.
The Cowboys will make the playoffs in 2021 and could become a Super Bowl contender with a little bit of luck.
