NFL Conference Reviews
There are a total of eight conferences in the NFL, split between the NFC and the AFC. In each conference, there are four teams split between their regional location. In this section, we will break down a brief overview of the division and the teams within each division. Make sure you check out each of our team breakdowns and previews for the 2018 NFL Season.
The AFC East has been the recent powerhouse division in the AFC for many years. They have produced 8 Super Bowl Champions and 19 AFC Championship. The New England Patriots have been the stable workhorse of the division, winning 5 Super Bowl on their own, followed by the Miami Dolphins with 2 Super Bowls and the New York Jets with 1 Super Bowl.
The AFC North is a division of rivalries that play hard-nosed football. The division is made up of 8 Super Bowl Championships and 14 AFC Championships. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the top dog in the division for many years, winning 23 Division Championship compared to no other team in the division winning in double-digit numbers for Divisional Championship. The Steelers have won the most Super Bowls, with 6 and the Baltimore Ravens have won 2 Super Bowls. They are the only two teams in the division that have won Super Bowls.
The AFC South is a division that has slacked behind the rest of the league as far as dominance. The only team in the division that has won a Super Bowl is the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have won 2 Super Bowls and 2 AFC Championships.
The AFC West is one of the most well-rounded divisions over the past 20 years. They have won 7 Super Bowls and 16 AFC Conference Championships. The Denver Broncos and the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders have each won 3 Super Bowls, while the Kansas City Chiefs have won 1 Super Bowl.
No conference in the NFL has been stronger than the NFC East. They have more Super Bowl rings spread out among their teams than any other team in the NFL. The NFC East has won 13 Super Bowls and 22 NFC Championships. The Dallas Cowboys have won the most Super Bowls with 5, while the New York Giants are not far behind them with 4 Super Bowl rings. The Washington Redskins have locked up 3 Super Bowls, while Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl last year.
The conference of cold weather and snowy games in the NFL is the NFC North. Weather is normally a factor in these outdoor stadiums and always something you want to check prior to wagering on any football game. The NFC North has 5 Super Bowl’s in their history, with 4 going to Green Bay and 1 going to the Chicago Bears.
The NFC South has won the least amount of Super Bowls in the history of the conference. The New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have both won 1 Super Bowl each and are the only teams in the conference that have won a Super Bowl.
The NFC West Division is made up of four teams that have each had their success in the league. The division combines for 13 Super Bowl appearances and 7 Super Bowl Championships.
2018-2019 NFL Playoffs
Last year, we witnessed some teams make the playoffs that we don’t normally see playing in the postseason. Teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams all made the playoffs and will look to make a repeat appearance this year in the postseason.
The playoff race won’t get started until about midway through the season but we will keep you updated on the current standings and playoff picture all throughout the season. You can check back here all throughout the NFL Season to get the up to date standings and playoff picture.
Be sure to check back after week 1 for our first update on the NFL standings and playoff picture.
Preseason NFL Favorites
Each year there are favorites in the NFL that will contend for their respective conferences. This year, we have many of the same teams competing for the Super Bowl.
New England Patriots +400 – Once again, the favorite in the NFL to win the Super Bowl is the New England Patriots. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are back in New England and whenever that happens, this team is going to be one of the top three teams in the league. Brady is approaching a time where he will be considering retirement so it’s only natural, that he will want to rack up those rings. The odds aren’t very appealing on the Patriots but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be the favorites to win it all.
Philadelphia Eagles +750 – Last year’s Super Bowl Champions naturally have to be considered as one of the favorites to get back and win the Super Bowl. They are returning a stockpile of talent and will once again have depth at the quarterback position. I strongly feel that either quarterback that they put on the field will have success in the City of Brotherly Love!
Green Bay Packers +750 – Aaron Rodgers will be healthy and that spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E for any opposing defense. Rodgers is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league and with a healthy crew of receivers, will lead this Green Bay team back to the playoffs. The Packers will have some competition in dominating the NFC North, as the Minnesota Vikings have one of the most well-roundedd teams in the NFL, but Rodgers is the difference maker and must be considered to take his team back to the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh Steelers +800 – The Pittsburgh Steelers are without a doubt one of the top teams and one of the favorites in the NFL this year to go to the Super Bowl. They play in a very favorable division and will return a decent amount of talent. They do have some contract issues going on with Le’Veon Bell that will need to be monitored but with Ben Roethlisberger still at quarterback, they are always going to be a contender in the league.
LA Rams +900 – The Rams are building something special in Los Angeles! They have started from the bottom and worked their way back up to the top. They have a young team of talent with Jared Goff at QB, Todd Gurley at RB and WR’s Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. They were also busy in the offseason boosting their defense, picking up Ndamukong Suh and Aqib Talib to help out their defense. They are going to be good this year and one of the best values on the board.
The NFL is always full of teams that sort of sneak in and plays competitively. Last year, we saw teams like the Jaguars, Titans, and Bills all step up and play competitive and witnessed the Philadelphia Eagles win their first ever Super Bowl. This year, there are several teams that could fall right in line with those teams and contend for the Super Bowl. The following teams are teams that we have picked out that we feel bring a decent value and will be sleepers in the NFL during the 2018 season.
Minnesota Vikings +1050 – When it comes to underrated, the Minnesota Vikings take the cake! This team is going to be really good and they aren’t getting the attention that we think they should. They will once again have one of the most dominating defenses in the NFL and they will return a talented offense that will now be run by former Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins. They will get Dalvin Cook healthy in the backfield and are definitely one of the top sleepers of the NFL season.
New York Giants +3159 – The Giants are not getting any respect for the team they have built. They got one of the best players in the NFL Draft in Saquon Barkley and will return Eli Manning, a year after he was benched midway through the season. Manning will be throwing to Odell Beckham Jr, who will hopefully have a new contract in place, and between the threat of Barkley running one back and Beckham beating you with his wheels, this team will be dangerous and could get drastically overlooked.
Jacksonville Jaguars +1803 – The Jacksonville Jaguars went to the AFC Championship game and lost to the New England Patriots. This was the first time in 10 years that the Jaguars had a winning season and they are built to return with success. They will once again have a very strong defense and they have a decent rushing attack that can keep them in games. They have some questions once again at the quarterback position and really lack depth at the position but if they can get decent play from Bortles and he can stay healthy, they may be able to contend for a spot in the Super Bowl. Make sure you check out our NFL Preview on the Jacksonville Jaguars and some safe bets that we have come up with.
San Francisco 49’ers +2806 – The San Francisco 49’ers came on strong to end the season. They picked up Jimmy Garoppolo as their franchise quarterback and signed him to a long-term deal. They grabbed up Jerick McKinnon from Minnesota in the offseason to serve as their workhorse running back. If they can continue their momentum going forward, they will be tough to beat.
Houston Texans +2500 – The Houston Texans have the talent on their team to be one of the best teams in the NFL this year. Their offense will be once again led by Deshaun Watson, who will be returning from an ACL tear that ended his season last year. They will also get JJ Watt back on the defensive side of the ball, who is one of the most dominant players in the NFL. If both of those players come back healthy, this team can without a doubt contend for the Super Bowl and at +2500, this is a no-brainer!
