NFL Betting Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins

by Spooky Express | October 12, 2021 |

New call-to-action

The Miami Dolphins (1-4) will face the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-5) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. Both teams are coming off a loss in week five with the Dolphins getting demolished by Tom Brady and the Bucs 45-17, while the Jaguars didn’t fare much better, dropping to the Titans 37-19.

The Miami Dolphins have now dropped their fourth straight game after an opening victory against the Patriots. Similarly, the Jaguars come into this matchup losing five straight to start the season and hope to get their first win of 2021 in England.

Miami Dolphins Betting Preview: Dolphins Struggling On Both Sides Of The Ball

Miami’s defense was the big story last Sunday after being gashed by the Buccaneers for 558 yards. In addition to the five touchdowns they allowed through the air to Brady, the defense is now ranked 30th in the league.

Miami’s secondary just isn’t as good as everyone expected. Their two “star” cornerbacks, Xavien Howard and Byron Jones have gotten absolutely shredded by opposing quarterbacks. The defense is allowing 288.6 yards to opposing QBs and a whopping 30.8 points.

The 31st ranked offense continues to struggle without Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback. The offensive unit is managing just 261.8 total yards and 15.8 points per game. Miami’s running game, in particular, has been atrocious, gaining just 39 yards on the ground on Sunday and averaging a league-worst 70.4 yards per game.

Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Preview: Jaguars Look To Get First Win In London

The Jacksonville Jaguars earned their fifth straight loss of the season and their 20th straight loss dating back to 2020. The rushing defense allowed Derrick Henry to run wild last Sunday as the leading rusher scored 3 touchdowns and ran for 130 yards.

The offense didn’t fare much better, fumbling on the third play of the game that was taken in for a score, Trevor Lawrence threw his league-leading eighth interception, while the offense put up just 19 points. Trevor Lawrence has made some fantastic plays but his offensive line and receivers aren’t doing him any favors.

The Jaguars had their most successful weekend putting up 381 total yards and James Robinson was a big reason. Robinson was the lone bright spot, breaking out for a season-high 149 yards and a score on 18 carries. If Jacksonville can bring this dynamic to their offense it will open up so much more room for Trevor Larence to make plays in the pocket.

Betting Lines & Odds

Mybookie opened the line with the Dolphins as the -3 favorite, with the point total set at 45.

The Miami Dolphins are hurting right now coming off a terrible loss to the Bucs, the vibes in Miami are not exactly at their best. The run defense and pass defense are clearly behind where they should be as a talented group and the offense hasn’t been great either. Be that as it may, the Jaguars are in the same boat.

Urban Meyer has been an added distraction on top of the horrible play they are getting on both sides of the ball. The injuries are piling up and there isn’t a lot of motivation or talent on this roster.

That being said, I believe Miami has more to play for and I believe they are a bit underrated. Coach Brian Flores should get this team back on track in London on Sunday.
