2020 Los Angeles Rams Review

The 2020 NFL season was strange in many ways, but it has to be considered a massive success for the Los Angeles Rams. This team was able to battle through adversity to finish with a 10-6 record and reach the postseason.

Los Angeles actually went on the road to Seattle and won the first playoff game before falling to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. Defense led the way for Los Angeles in 2020, but the offense could have played better than it did, and changes are coming in 2021.

2021 Rams Offseason Additions

The biggest addition for the Rams came in the form of a trade as they were able to land Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions. Stafford will be under center in Week 1 and should provide a huge boost to this offense.

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson was also brought in, and that will give Stafford another weapon to throw to.

2021 Rams Offseason Departures

In exchange for Stafford, Los Angeles sent quarterback Jared Goff to Detroit. Getting Stafford is an upgrade, but Goff was a popular player in Los Angeles.

The defense will look a bit different in 2021 as the Rams did lose some starters in free agency. Safety John Johnson and cornerback Troy Hill have moved on, and that will have an effect in the secondary.

Three Key Factors to a Winning Season

Stafford Must Deliver

Jared Goff took the Rams to a Super Bowl, but he never really lived up to his full potential in Los Angeles. If the Rams are going to take the next step, then Matthew Stafford must deliver. Stafford will have plenty of weapons at his disposal, and this offense could be scary.

Running the Football

The Rams want to run the football, but they just haven’t always been very good at it. Los Angeles let Todd Gurley go a few years ago and have been trying to piece it together ever since.

Donald Dominates on Defense

The Rams have a dominant defense led by Aaron Donald, and that unit can’t afford to regress at all. Life in the NFC West is challenging, but Donald must set the tone on the defensive side of the ball.

Rating Their Schedule

When looking at the schedule for the Rams in 2021, the first five games really stick out. This is an absolute gauntlet for the Rams, and they must simply find a way to survive.

Los Angeles host the Chicago Bears in Week 1, and then travel to Indianapolis in Week 2. Home games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals are next before a matchup on the road in Seattle.

There are some easier games later on in the season, but that opening stretch is a grind.

Expectations in 2021

Los Angeles should win the NFC West this season, but that is going to be a tight divisional race. The Rams are going to suffer some losses, but the addition of Stafford will push this team over the edge.

Look for Los Angeles to win at least 11 games in the regular season, and they will be a threat in the playoffs. The Rams aren’t going to be a Super Bowl favorite, but they’ve played the underdog role well before.
