The New England Patriots are listed as 1-point road favorites against the Tennessee Titans in week 2 of the preseason.
The Patriots are coming off another Super Bowl win with Tom Brady at quarterback and their 6th total, and are once again looking like one of the top teams in the AFC again this season.
They won their week 1 preseason game against the Detroit Lions by a score of 31-3.
The Tennessee Titans are in a make or break season with Marcus Mariota at quarterback because if he struggles this season then they will likely be looking to draft a new quarterback in next year’s draft. They won their first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 27-10. Let’s take a closer look at these two teams and we’ll start with the underdog Tennessee Titans.
The Tennessee Titans came close to making the playoffs last season and had the defeated the Indianapolis Colts in week 17 last season they would’ve been in the playoffs. Despite that this will be a make or break season for Marcus Mariota who has battled both injuries and inconsistency throughout his NFL career.
The Titans made a smart move signing Ryan Tannehill in free agency in the offseason in case Mariota struggles or gets injured. The offensive line remains one of the better lines in the NFL and that will help their running game to take some of the pressure off Marcus Mariota.
The Titans won their week 1 preseason game over the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 27-10. Logan Woodside led the team in passing completing 15 of 20 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding another 17 on the ground.
Jeremy McNichols led the team in rushing with 44 yards on 8 carries. Kalif Raymond led the team in receiving with 6 receptions on 8 targets for 80 yards.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots have a less talented roster compared to last season but still remain one of the favorites to win the AFC again this season. Tom Brady will enter his 20th season in the NFL this year and has shown no signs of slowing down.
The Patriots have a top 5 offensive line in the NFL and will have a crowded backfield this season with the addition of Damien Harris to go with Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead.
They lost one of their best receivers and future Hall of Famers in Rob Gronkowski in the offseason due to retirement which means Edelman will likely be the go-to guy on the team this season. The Patriots won their first preseason game against the Detroit Lions by a score of 31-3.
Jarrett Stidham led the team in passing completing 14 of 24 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown and adding another 16 yards on the ground. Nick Brossette led the team in receiving with 66 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown. Jakobi Myers led the team in receiving with 6 receptions on 8 targets for 69 yards and 2 touchdowns.
New England Wins Week 2 of the Preseason
Both teams have talent to make the playoff this season, but the Patriots have more depth at the key positions including running back compared to the Titans and Hoyer will likely see the majority of the 1st half in this game. I look for the quarterback play of Hoyer and Stidham to be the difference in this game and for the Patriots to come away with the win in week 2 of the preseason.
