New call-to-action

The Washington Football Team will head to New England to take on the Patriots in this preseason week one matchup. After a year of no preseason during the 2020 season, players and coaches across the country have to be ready for this matchup Thursday evening.

The Washington Football Team comes into 2021 after finishing the season 7-9; a record good enough to win a division and get them into the playoffs. New England also finished the season 7-9 but in a much tougher division, which did not allow them to get to the playoffs for the first time in the past 12 seasons.

Washington Football Team Betting Preview: Building on Winning the Division

Of course, most of the off-season drama for Washington seemed to be surrounded by the name of the organization. It seemed like the news of the team signing veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went right by the wayside. This is big for a team that needs veteran leadership. They are young, and with this leader behind center, they instantly got better that day.

Washington had both a really nice draft as well as the signing period for free agency. Bringing in wide receiver depth with Curtis Samuel and Adam Humphries will instantly bolster offensive production. A team that has The offense will also rely heavily on second-year running back Antonio Gibson. Averaging 4.7 yards per carry last season, Gibson found the endzone 11 times.

The defense got better as well. With one of the most potent defensive ends in Chase Young, the defense had to start worrying about their middle and secondary. In the draft, they were able to get one of the most talented linebackers in the draft, Jamin Davis. They also signed William Jackson to play corner. The defense got better, and that’s all you can ask for in an offseason.

New England Patriots Betting Preview: How Long Before Mac?

The talk of this 2021 season will be rookie quarterbacks. The New England Patriots selected Mac Jones with the 15th pick in last year’s draft. Coming from the University of Alabama, Jones is not new to the lights and big moments. The only problem for Jones, he will start this season behind veteran quarterback Cam Newton.

On a one-year contract, Newton will need to show Patriots fans that last year was not him at his best, and he still has some juice left in the tank. Helping him along the way will be a very solid running back core. With Damien Harris, Sony Michel, and James White all vying for touches, they should have plenty of fresh legs. The team also went out and signed a great tight end in Hunter Henry and added a key wide receiver in Nelson Agholor.

The team also took to the defensive side of the ball, drafting defensive players in four of their first six picks. While it is uncertain whether these guys will walk in and get immediate playing time is still unknown, they have at least created depth. Also returning to the team will be veteran Kyle Van Noy. After spending a season in Miami, the linebacker is back in New England and looking to get the team back to the playoffs.

While most week one preseason games will be filled with guys vying for an opportunity to make the roster, Ron Rivera has said that Washington will be playing their guys. He has talked about wanting to see how Fitzpatrick leads the team.

It is safe to assume that Cam Newton will not be on the field very much for the Patriots. A lot of eyes will be on Mac to see what he can get done on the field. If Rivera sends his starters out there to match up with the Patriots' backups, they would definitely have the advantage.
