NFL Conference Championship Weekend Injury Watch

by | Jan 19, 2018 | NFL

Matchup at a Glance

We are down to four teams this week remaining in the NFL and two more will be eliminated as the Conference Championships are decided.  Both of these games are going to be great games, both from a fan standpoint and also from a DFS standpoint.  As the teams dwindle, these DFS lineups become increasingly harder as there are a limited amount of players to choose from.  Additionally, when you take into consideration about the injuries that come into play, you need a whole lot of luck and the perfect storm to happen to cash those BIG GPP’s!  To help increase your chances, we will be reviewing the injuries to many of the players and advising you on who to lean to as a replacement in case the player is OUT and INACTIVE!

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have just two offensive injured players listed on this week’s injury report but they are the two biggest and most important players on the roster. Neither of these guys are expected to miss any time so I would put much into either of these guys.  The Jaguars are one game out of the Super Bowl and facing the defending champs, they will both play!!!

  • RB Leonard Fournette – First, we all saw Leonard Fournette limp off the field last week in the Divisional Playoffs but return to the game and be very effective.  Fournette posted 109 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in the game! Fournette was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but that was more of a precautionary measure than it was due to the injury.  The Jaguars didn’t want to risk further injury and made the decision to rest the ankle.  Fournette is a strong play this week in both GPP and Cash Game Lineups!
  • QB Blake Bortles QB Blake Bortles is listed on the Jaguars injury report with a right wrist injury but it does not appear to be anything serious.  Bortles was able to fully practice on Wednesday and Thursday and there really is no fear that he would miss the game on Sunday.  Bortles is a great option this week and if you read my DFS Cash Game and GPP articles, you know that we are big on him!  Put him in your lineups and forget about it!!!

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are banged up more on defense than they are on offense.  The Vikings have injuries listed to their secondary and along the line but from a DFS standpoint, they only affect the defense from preventing points to be scored.  The Vikes also have two injuries along the offense that we will discuss and one that you will want to definitely keep your eyes on.

  • WR Adam Thielen – Minnesota’s leading WR missed practice on Wednesday due to a lower back injury but did return in a limited role on Thursday.  We will need to follow this closely as Thielen has become QB Case Keenum’s top target.  If Keenum is unable to go on Sunday, most people would immediately revert to WR Stefon Diggs but I think that may be a mistake this week if Thielen is not in the lineup.  With Thielen not in there, the Eagles can put an extra man on the speedy Diggs and take him out of the game plan.  If Thielen is not able to play, I would recommend avoiding all Minnesota WR’s.
  • WR Michael Floyd – The Vikings also have noted that WR Michael Floyd has missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to an illness that is being described as flu like symptoms but head coach Mike Zimmer stated that he felt Floyd would be fine in time for Sunday’s game.

New England Patriots

As with every game when the New England Patriots are involved, you must worry about how serious in nature various injuries are among the players.  Sometimes it will be led on that the injury is very minor and sometimes the injury will appear minor and that player will be listed inactive.  Whenever you are talking about the Patriots, we encourage you to look right before lock time for your DFS lineups and double check with various sources!  Twitter is by far the best option as you will be able to get several opinions on the likeliness of the player being in the game.

  • QB Tom Brady Tom Brady is nursing a hand injury.  That is about all I got for you.  I’ve looked on various websites and Twitter and see some reporting it as a bruise on the hand, others say it is a sprain, some are saying he may have cut the hand….no one really truly knows and no one in the Patriots organization is talking about it.  That being said, his hand is still connected to his body and a injured Tom Brady is better than most 100% healthy other QB’s within the league!
  • RB Rex BurkheadRunning Back Rex Burkhead was limited on Wednesday and Thursday with a knee injury.  Burkhead has been listed on the injury report for several weeks now and with the Patriots, it is always difficult to measure who they will use in the backfield.  I would avoid using any New England running backs this week.
  • RB Mike GillisleeRunning Back Mike Gillislee is also listed as questionable for Sunday with a knee injury.  Gillislee has also been listed on the injury report several times to close out the year and was limited in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the lucky teams left that really don’t have any true notable injuries on offense.  They do have 2 linebackers and a cornerback listed on their injury report but nothing for offense.
