2020 Philadelphia Eagles Season Review
The 2020 NFL Season for the Philadelphia Eagles was nothing short of a disaster, and it cost several people their jobs. Philadelphia finished with a 4-11-1 record, and the offense was a complete mess from Week 1 through Week 17.
The Eagles appeared to completely quit as a team late in the season, and there was not much fight from some of the key veterans. This is a proud NFL franchise, but last season was nothing to be proud of.
2021 Eagles Offseason Additions
Free safety Anthony Harrison and defensive end Ryan Kerrigan were the two biggest names signed in free agency, and both players should have an impact on the defensive side of the ball. Joe Flacco was brought in as the backup quarterback, but the Eagles are hoping that he does nothing more than hold a clipboard.
2021 Eagles Offseason Departures
Safeties Jalen Mills and Johnathan Ford both left the Eagles this offseason in free agency, and that will cause some holes on the back end. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is no longer with the team, taking away one of the top playmakers.
Of course, the Eagles also decided to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts after a brutal season. Wentz was great for much of his time in Philadelphia, but the ending was rough.
Three Key Factors to a Winning Season
After a 4-11-1 season a year ago, there are a number of things that the Eagles need to do to improve. Here are three key factors for a winning season in 2021.
Progression From Hurts
It appears as if Jalen Hurts is set to take over the starting quarterback job, despite showing some struggles a season ago. Hurts is very talented, but the 2021 season will likely depend on great progress from the young QB. Philadelphia is hoping Hurts continues to improve, and the offense is in much better shape.
Better Offensive Line Play
The offensive line really struggled in 2020, and that led to massive struggles for quarterback Carson Wentz. If Hurts is going to show improvement this season, the Eagles are going to have to give him some time to operate.
Dominating NFC East
The NFC East is the worst division in football, and the Eagles need to take advantage of that fact. Going 5-1 or 4-2 in divisional play will allow the Eagles to stack some wins and make a push to the postseason.
Rating Their Schedule
Week 3 of the 2021 season is the first matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, and these should be the two best teams in the NFC East. One week later, the Eagles host the Kansas City Chiefs in what will be a difficult test.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to town in Week 6, and the early part of the 2021 schedule is not kind to the Eagles. Philadelphia simply has to scratch out a few wins before turning it on later in the season.
Expectations in 2021
The Eagles are going to be much better in 2021, as everything seemed to go wrong a season ago. The real question is, how much better are they going to be?
Philadelphia could win the NFC East Division title this season, but that will require a great season from Hurts. A much safer prediction is a 9-8 record in 2021, which will cause the Eagles to miss the playoffs yet again.
