Breaking Down NHL 20 Betting

by Ayden Fahlstrom | May 2, 2020 |

Welcome to the wide new world we live in. A world where actual sporting events are seen by no one, and simulated sporting events are seen by thousands, possibly millions. It’s not the world that you or I grew up in, but this version did manage to keep two of my favorite things, competition and gambling.

With basically the entire world on lockdown, the human race tried to figure out how to soldier on. How to continue while most of the things we love and enjoy are shut down. Well, our professional sports leagues have come up with somewhat of a solution. How about we SIM the remainder of the games on a video game? Hey! I’m in!

Gaming and Betting

Sporting video games have brought bettors something to focus on for years, but now, even more so. Of course, most betting that takes place for video games is what we refer to as, “esports.” The world of esports includes some of the most talented video game players in the world facing off against each other while playing an array of video games, including sports games.

The current popularity of SIM betting is slightly different than esports. NHL 2K20 is offering SIM betting on most major sportsbooks. The difference between 2K SIM and 2K esports is the being in control. Most SIM games are played by the computer’s artificial intelligence, while esports are mostly players between two very talented human gamers.

Betting Style

Sportsbooks are offering a wide variety of ways to bet on these SIM games, including spreads, money lines, totals, parlays, and prop bets. They have literally made SIM betting into betting a real NHL game. In NHL 2K, some books are even offering a SIM league that features current NHL stars competing against one another. You should stay away from those, unless you know the skill level your favorite NHL player at gaming.

The reason I stick to the traditional SIM games are the same reasons I make picks in real world sports. Number and statistics. SIM play closely follows the on ice play of NHL teams from the previous season, while esports only tells you who the better gamer is. Most of us are new to this and know the NHL better than any esports league, making SIM betting the obvious choice.

You’re Gonna Learn Today

If you are familiar with the 2020 NHL season, and how your favorite sportsbook is offering betting, you basically have all the info you need. The only other thing you need is to go out and pick up NHL 2K20. Familiarize yourself with the game. The easiest way is to play a few.

Learn the quirks and abilities of your favorite teams to bet on. The game isn’t going to make a picture perfect replica of the 2020 teams, so find out just how each team plays before throwing out your cash. Aside from that, you’re ready to go! Keep in mind 2K uses last years roster, so hometown boy Pat Maroon is still a world champion St Louis Blue, and any other trades and acquisitions that were made last offseason are nil in the game.

Stream the Action

Now all you need to know is where to watch the action, and there are multiple answers to that question. Many online sportsbooks that are offering SIM betting have tournaments set up to bet on and stream. Twitch is often home to some of these games, but find out on your sportsbook. In this world turned upside down, manu have even been nationally televised.

So while we’re all trapped inside with our children driving us insane, let’s pick up a new hobby. Let’s all go out and throw down on some NHL 2K20 SIM betting. Maybe it’ll stick with us all and stay around long after this madness is over. Good luck and stay safe out there!
