NHL Betting Preview: Dallas Stars vs. Florida Panthers – Monday, May 3, 2021

by Tyler Vaysman | May 3, 2021 |

The Dallas Stars will head to Florida to take on the Panthers in this Eastern Division matchup. Puck drop for this game is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST from the BB&T Center.

This will be the eighth time these two teams have taken the ice against each other. The Panthers are currently 5-2 against the Stars in their season series. With the Florida Panthers already having a clinched playoff berth, this is a huge game for the Dallas Stars.

Dallas Stars Betting Preview: Trying to catch the Nashville Predators

As it stands today, the Stars would not be in the playoffs this season. However, with five games left, they are just three points out from the Predators. A 0-1 overtime loss to Nashville Saturday night really stings, but it allowed them to at least capture a single point and stay in the hunt.

The Stars have two players who have excelled this season offensively, Joe Pavelski and Jason Robertson. Pavelski is leading the team in points with 44. He has scored 21 goals and assisted on 23 others. Robertson is right behind him with 40 points. He has scored 25 goals and assisted on 25 others.

The Stars have still been splitting starts in net with Anton Khudobin and Jake Oettinger. Khudobin has a record of 11-10-4. He is giving up just 2.39 goals per game. Oettinger’s overall record is 10-7-3. He is giving up just 2.25 goals per game. Goaltending has not been the issue for the Stars, and they have to find a way to push a couple of pucks across the goal line if they want to win these crucial games.

Florida Panthers Betting Preview: Finishing the season strong

The Panthers are in a fascinating spot. While they have clinched a playoff spot no matter what, they find themselves just two points out of first place in the division. If they could find a way to win their last three games, they put themselves in a position to take the one seed and get the much easier first-round playoff game.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov have been nothing short of fantastic this season for the Panthers. Huberdeau is leading the team in points with 58. He has scored 18 goals and assisted on 40 others. Barkov is right behind him with 54 points. He has scored 25 goals and assisted on 29 others. Both are in the top 15 in all of the NHL for total points.

With a lower-body injury to Chris Driedger, the Panthers will make Sergei Bobrovsky their main goaltender going forward. Bobrovsky has been great in net for the Panthers, with a record of 18-8-1. He is giving up 2.97 goals per game. Driedger is not slated to come back until the middle of May, so Bobrovsky will more than likely have to get them through the first round of the playoffs by himself.

Stars vs. Panthers Betting Odds & Lines

Bet Online has the Florida Panther, the moneyline favorite (-140) and over/under at 5½.

Free Pick

This is a big game for both of these teams. The Panthers have the better offense, while the goaltending for the Stars is statistically better. There have been three games played in Florida this season, with the Panthers taking two of the three.

Of the seven games played so far, only one has totaled six goals or more. Betting the over/under here seems like it is going to be up in the air, with the Panthers having to make the decision on whether they are going to get guys some rest or really chase that number one seed.
