After the Dallas Stars beat the Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout last night, the Los Angeles Kings have clinched a berth to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and are already slated for a first round matchup versus the powerful offense of the Edmonton Oilers.
However, before that, the Kings have to handle business tonight versus the Seattle Kraken on the road at Climate Pledge Arena.
The Kraken on the other hand have long been out of the playoffs, and in what was a bit of a disappointing inaugural season, are looking for some silver linings for this season.
The puck will drop at 10:00 pm from Seattle.
Will the Los Angeles Kings gain some momentum heading into the playoffs, or will the Kraken head into next season on a high note?
Los Angeles Kings Betting Preview: Ticket Punched
After clinching their berth into the playoffs, and already being locked into their spot, the Kings do not have much to play for in this matchup, but I do believe they would like to head into the playoffs with some momentum.
The Kings last playoff appearance was in 2017-2018, a season in which they lost in the first round via a sweep to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Knights first season in the NHL.
Surprisingly, the Kings have been one of the best teams in the league on the defensive end, finding themselves seventh in the NHL in goals against as a team, allowing goals at a rate of 2.79 per contest.
Offensively, however, they only score 2.83 goals per game, being one of the few teams with a fairly low goal differential that is heading into the playoffs.
Jonathan Quick and Cal Peterson have both been admirable in net, but Jonathan Quick has returned a bit to the goalie of old, posting over 20 wins for the first season in a while without more losses, allowing only 2.58 goals per game, and having a save percentage of .909. He will likely get the start tonight.
The Kings have also won four in a row.
Seattle Kraken Betting Preview: On to the Next
For much of the end of this season, the mantra for the Kraken has been “on to the next,” as they try to find their way through a tumultuous first season in the NHL.
The Kraken have now lost three straight, but a couple wins within their last three games and this last week could provide a boost heading into the next season.
Statistically, the Kraken are near the bottom in the NHL in both goals against and goals for in the NHL this season. They are third to last in goals scored at 2.58 goals per game, and they are in the bottom ten in goals allowed per game at a rate of 3.48 allowed per game.
After a couple breakout years in Washington and Colorado, Phillip Grubauer has fell of this season, only tallying 18 wins, having a goals against of 3.18, and a save percentage of .890. He figures to get the start tonight.

While both teams don’t have much to play for, the Kings are the better team, and they have reason to be motivated after just clinching the playoffs last night.
However, the better bet is to target the under on the total, in a game between two teams who fail to score often.
Both teams tally under three goals per game on average, and I think the goalies play a strong roll tonight.
