The Montreal Canadians and Philadelphia Flyers just finished playing Game 4 yesterday, but they’ll have to gear up for Game 5 today for the second half of a back-to-back. It’s their first and only back-to-back of the series, but this game is much more important than that.
The game will start at 8:00 PM ET, less than 24 hours after the ending of Game 4, inside the Toronto bubble. We’ll get to see Carey Price and Carter Hart go head-to-head for what could be the last time in this series.
The Philadelphia Flyers currently own this series 3-1 and have put together two impressive victories in a row. Both of them have been shutouts after being shut out themselves in Game 2. Now, they find themselves with a chance to finish off the Canadians and advance to the next round of the playoffs.
Will the Montreal Canadians Force a Game 6?
The Montreal Canadians will need to get back to the same energy they played with in Game 2, when they defeated the Flyers 5-0. It was their only victory of the series, but it’s not like their goal tending has been bad. They’ve only allowed 5 goals the entire series.
In fact, the Canadians have actually outscored the Flyers 6-5 in this series. Unfortunately, all but one of those goals came in one game, and the lone goal in the other game wasn’t enough to overcome a 2-1 defeat. The Canadians have been close, but not close enough.
Can the Philadelphia Flyers Advance to the Next Round?
The Philadelphia Flyers have two straight shutout victories in the playoffs, which is a mighty fine accomplishment no matter who the opponent is. They’ll have a chance to make it three straight on Wednesday night, but it won’t come easy.
They’ll be looking for production from Jakub Voracek, who has turned in a good series thus far. He has tallied two goals and one assist in the three victories, so he’s definitely been a key for the Philadelphia Flyers in these playoffs.
Montreal Canadians vs. Philadelphia Flyers Betting Lines
Will we get to watch a sixth game of this series or will the Flyers find a way to advance? BetOnline has the Philadelphia Flyers (-144) with the 1.5-goal advantage over the Montreal Canadians (+130). They also have the over/under listed at 5 goals.
What’s Our Pick?
I like what I’ve seen from Carter Hart. Not only did he become the youngest player to achieve a shutout in the playoffs, but he followed that up with another shutout yesterday. With a combined 52 saves between both games, there’s clearly not a goalie that’s more reliable right now.
With that being said, I think the Montreal Canadians will sneak in a victory due to the back-to-back action. I think it finally catches up to the Flyers, but I do believe it’ll be a close one. Look for the deciding goal to come late in the third period!
Final Score 3-2, Montreal Canadians.
