Canadiens Trying to Get Back in the Win Column
The Montreal Canadiens come into play with a record of 18-17-7, good for 43 points. They currently sit six points behind the second wild card spot and 16 points behind the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division.
Montreal made some roster shakeups this past week to try and light a fire under the team as they traded a fourth-round pick to Buffalo for defenseman Marco Scandella. Scandella is a Montreal native. He has three goals and nine points in 32 games this season.
The Canadiens also signed winger Ilya Kovalchuk to a two-way contract. Kovalchuk said Saturday that he expects to be in the lineup against Winnipeg.
The Canadiens are banking on Kovalchuk to be productive as they are down four wingers because of injury. Kovalchuk has three goals and six assists in 17 games.
Montreal is led offensively by left winger Tomas Tatar, who has scored 16 goals and has 19 assists. Brendan Gallagher has scored 15 goals and has 17 assists.
Center Phillip Danault leads the team with a plus/minus rating of +9. Between the pipes, goaltender Carey Price leads the way with a record of 16-14-4. His goals against average is 3.00 and his save percentage is .902.
