The playoff series between the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers comes down to Game 7 on Saturday night. It should be an exciting one as both teams have had their fair share of chances this series. The game starts at 7:30PM ET inside the Toronto bubble.
These teams split the first two games of the series before having Game 3 postponed due to protest. The Islanders took advantage of the rest they were given and won two games in a row coming out of the break, outscoring the Flyers 6-3 in those two games.
The Islanders have had two chances to close the series since, but have failed to get the job done. They’ve still scored at an impressive clip, but the Flyers have had the upper hand these past two games, outscoring the Islanders 9-7.
Can the New York Islanders Get Back On Track Saturday?
The New York Islanders have been quite the Cinderella story throughout these playoffs. They weren’t expected to reach this far, but made it with intense scoring and effective teamwork. It would be nice to see them advance for that reason.
Unfortunately, they haven’t had the type of goaltending they need the past few games. Their offense is still there, which is a good sign, but they need better goaltending against the Flyers. Hopefully that day of rest was enough to prepare them for the most important game of their season thus far.
Will the Philadelphia Flyers Complete Their Epic Comeback?
The Philadelphia Flyers found themselves in a quick hole in this series, but they’ve rebounded nicely. Their goaltending has still been spotty, but that won’t matter if their offense can continue to rip it. They’ll need Jakub Coracek and Travis Konecnyc to be at their best.
On the other hand, they can’t keep relying on overtime to get the job done. All three victories by the Flyers this series have come in overtime. Don’t expect the Islanders to make it easy for them because they haven’t yet this series. It should be a back-and-forth battle between these two teams.
New York Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers Betting Lines
Who will take home the victory in Saturday’s only Game 7 action on NBC? BetOnline has the New York Islanders (-125) with the 1.5-goal advantage over the Philadelphia Flyers (-113). They also have the over/under listed at 5 total goals.
What’s Our Pick?
This has been such an intense series. In the past two potential series-clinching games, the New York Islanders have failed to get it done in overtime. Game 6 even took two overtimes, but Philly still left with the upper hand.
With this being the third Game 7 in two nights, NHL fans are loving every minute of it. It should be another good one on Saturday, but I think the New York Islanders will finally get what they’ve worked so hard for since entering the bubble.
Final Score 5-3, New York Islanders.
