The New York Islanders and Washington Capitals are preparing for Game 5 of this best-of-seven playoff series being played inside the Toronto bubble. The game starts at 8:00PM ET and is televised on NBCSN for those that want to watch it.
The Islanders had no problem getting off to a 3-0 start vs. the Capitals, but were unable to close the series out in a sweep. Instead, Washington found a way to hold on for one more game, which is all they can do from here on out.
Both teams have had a full day’s rest, so they’ll be ready to go at it on Thursday. It’ll be the second chance for the Islanders to finish the series, but it won’t come easy as they’ve already done more than surprise this team thus far in the series.
Can the New York Islanders Advance?
The New York Islanders outscored the Capitals 11-5 throughout the first three games, but couldn’t get it done in Game 4 to bring down the Capitals down easy. Instead, they’ll have to keep on trying in hopes of not letting Washington back in this series.
The Islanders have Johnny Boychuk and Cal Clutterbuck listed on the injury report as day-to-day. They shouldn’t be forced to miss this game, but it’ll be interesting to see if their injuries continue to bother them. You’ll want to keep an eye on those two throughout the game on Thursday.
Will the Washington Capitals Force a Game 6?
The Washington Capitals were lucky they didn’t give up on Tuesday because the Islanders had every reason to win that game. Down 3-0 in the series, Washington gave up two first period goals in their last matchup to go down 2-0 early.
Luckily, they tied the game in the second period with goals from Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin (power play). They followed that up with another unanswered goal in the third period by Alex Ovechkin to secure their first victory of the series.
New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals Betting Lines
Can the Capitals hang on to stay alive another day in this series? BetOnline has the Washington Capitals (-115) with the 1.5-goal advantage over the New York Islanders (+104) in Game 5. They also have the over/under listed at 5 total goals.
What’s Our Pick?
The Washington Capitals were the favorite coming into this series, but they fell flat on their faces in the first three games of the series. They don’t have an easy road the rest of the series, but they still have a chance and that’s all they need to focus on right now.
The Islanders still have a lot of momentum, but I think giving that 2-0 lead up in the second period last game was enough to throw them off track — at least for the time being. I think the Islanders fall flat again and Washington steals another game in this series.
Final Score 4-1, Washington Capitals.
