Quick Pick: Vegas Golden Knights +130
The Winnipeg Jets and the Vegas Golden Knights will continue their NHL Western Conference Playoff series in Winnipeg on Sunday. Game 5 of this series will be an elimination game as the Golden Knights currently lead the series 3-1. Winnipeg took game 1 of this best of 7 series, but the Golden Knights responded by winning the next 3 contests.
Neither team has ever reached a Stanley Cup Final, but the Golden Knights are looking to do so in their first year as a franchise. Winnipeg had a terrific regular season, and now hopes to keep their playoff hopes alive with a game 5 win. The Vegas Golden Knights are +130 in game 5.
Fleury Continues His Dominance for Vegas
Marc-Andre Fleury was surprisingly left unprotected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the expansion draft, and the Golden Knights quickly stole him away. Fleury, who has won two consecutive Stanley Cup titles, now hopes to return to the Finals for a third straight year. The Vegas goalie has carried his team throughout the playoffs and has only allowed 1.72 goals per game. The Winnipeg Jets have been unable to solve Fleury so far in this series.
Offensively, the Golden Knights seem to have a new hero emerge each night in the playoffs. In game 4 it was Reilly Smith who delivered the game winning goal and also provided an earlier assist. Vegas has put pressure on the Jets defense the entire series, and will look to finish them off in game 5.
Winnipeg Must Find a Way
The Jets had high hopes entering this series after defeating the Nashville Predators in game 7. The Jets got off to a hot start, winning game 1, but have not been able to slow down the Golden Knights since. Connor Hellebuyck has been solid in goal for Winnipeg, but the Jets’ offense can’t keep up with Vegas.
The Jets felt that they outplayed the Golden Knights in game 4, but once again were unable to get enough shots past Fleury. Mark Scheifele has been the main goal scorer for the Jets in this series, but was unable to light the lamp in game 4. Look for Patrik Laine or Blake Wheeler to find their way into the scoring column in game 5 as the Jets try to stave off elimination.
Vegas Prevails, Reaches Finals
The Golden Knights were a 500-1 shot to win the Stanley Cup before the season began, but are now just 1 win away from reaching the Finals. The expansion team has been on a remarkable run all season long, and they carry a ton of momentum with them heading into game 5. If Fleury is on top of his game once again, the Golden Knights have to like their chances.
Winnipeg had a terrific regular season, but hasn’t been able to get anything going offensively in this series. Dustin Byfuglien tried to ignited his teammates in game 4 with some chippy play, but that didn’t lead to any goals. The Jets will gain an extra boost in game 5 playing at home, but it won’t be enough to keep their season alive. Bet the Vegas Golden Knights +130 to win game 5 and reach the Stanley Cup Finals.
