Jackrabbits Dancing For Third Straight Year
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. They are a durable little team that has overcome a lot of tough times to get where they are this year in the big dance. They ended their season 28-6 and went 13-1 in the Summit League. The Jackrabbits have won 11 games straight and 19 of their last 20 games overall.
The Jackrabbits are led on the court by Junior Forward Mike Daum. Daum is a 6’09 250lb beast of a man that will play physical in the paint, as well as jump outside and shoot the three. He leads the team in three pointers and shoots 42.1% on the year behind the three point range.
In addition to Daum, the Jackrabbits have a very talented freshman David Jenkins Jr. Jenkins is averaging 16.1 points per game and is shooting 38.7% from the field. When he scores, the Jackrabbits are successful. Point being, when he scores at least 11 points in the game, South Dakota State is 24-1! That one loss was against Colorado and went to double overtime.
Buckeyes Look To Turn Around Season Ending
The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the NCAA Tournament losers of 3 of their last 5 games. They are 24-8 overall and went 15-3 in the BIG 10. They were eliminated from the BIG 10 Tournament by Penn State by the score of 69-68. For whatever reason, Penn State had the Buckeyes number this year, winning all three games against the Nittany Lions.
The Buckeyes will rely on their talented Junior Forward Keita Bates-Diop. Bates-Diop is averaging 19.4 points per game and is one of the best players in the NCAA Tournament. He is a scoring presence for the Buckeyes and his playing abilities alone, will keep this team in nearly every game they play.
The Buckeyes have a decent team but my concern for the overall feeling for them is they truly do not have the respectable wins to convince me they will advance past the first round. They have a very tough opponent in front of them that is truly dangerous. If they look past them, they will get a quick exit from the tournament!!!
Upset In The Making!!!
If you are looking for a decent upset to upset the brackets on day 1, take a look at the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. They have the key elements to pull an upset on day 1. With the combination of Daum and Jenkins, they can play competitive with anyone. I like them to pull an upset here but I like another angle a little bit better…..
One area that the Jackrabbits lack is in defense. They give up a ton of points and basically try to outscore their opposition. They will take on a Ohio State team that has a talented Forward in Bates-Diop that can score points by the handfuls. These two are going to shoot it out and the game will go over the posted total here.
With all that being said, I will go with this game to play over the posted total for 3.5 units. I don’t see any way that this game stays under the posted total. I will also throw 1 unit on South Dakota State for 1 unit. I also will be leaning towards the moneyline in this game as South Dakota State is one of the hottest moneyline dogs in the NCAA Tournament! If you can get this game at +330 or better, jump on it but anything less than that, take the points.
Pick 1: South Dakota State vs. Ohio State Over 147 for 3.5 units
Pick 2: South Dakota State +8 for 1 unit
