The Tennessee Titans will travel to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a Thursday Night matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This game is set to kickoff at approximately 8:25 PM ET and can be watched on the NFL Network.
The Titans and the Steelers are familiar foes, squaring off with each other seven times over the last 10 years. In those seven games, the Steelers have went 4-3 SU in the series but only 2-5 ATS.
Titans Sitting At The Top Of AFC North
The Tennessee Titans are winners of their last 4 games straight and now share the top spot in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans are 6-3 SU overall on the year but they have only covered the spread in 3 of the 9 games.
The Titans are coming into this game off a win over the Cincinnati Bengals by the score 24-20. The Titans noted that QB Marcus Mariota suffered a shoulder injury last week against the Bengals but they do not believe that it is anything that will keep him on the sidelines. Mariota went 25 for 44 in the game for 264 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Mariota also tacked on 51 rushing yards in 6 carries. The Titans also stated that Tight End Delanie Walker suffered a wrist injury but also is not expected to be anything serious. Walker ended up with 6 receptions for 63 yards.
With Sunday’s win over the Bengals, the Titans are now 3-0 against teams from the AFC North and will be going for the season sweep over the AFC North on Thursday Night when they travel to Heinz Field to take on the Steelers.
Steelers Have 2nd Best Defense In NFL
The Pittsburgh Steelers got a scare on Sunday when they narrowly squeaked out a victory over the Indianapolis Colts, who are 3-7, by the score 20-17. The Steelers were down by two touchdowns in the second half of the game with the Colts and forced Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger to come from behind to get the win. Roethlisberger threw for 236 yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT in the game. Both of the touchdown passes came in the second half of the game.
The Steelers are 7-2 on the year and are in first place in the AFC North Division. The Steelers have won four games straight but only one of those games was by more than a touchdown. They have not played at home since October 22 and only one of their last 4 games has been at Heinz Field.
The Steelers have the 2nd overall defense in the NFL. They have only allowed 2 teams all year to score more than 18 points on their defense, both of which were their two losses against the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. Because of their stingy defense, the Steelers have played under the posted total in 8 out of 9 games.
Defense Reigns Supreme On Thursday Night
This game will be about defense! As we stated earlier, the Steelers have the 2nd best defense in the NFL and aren’t going to let many points be scored on them. The Titans defense is also one that doesn’t allow many points and most importantly, gets off the field on third down.
Last week vs. the Bengals, they held Cincinnati to 1-10 on 3rd down in the game! If the Titans can continue that type of gameplay, they will keep this game much closer than the lines makers think it will be. I think we will see a very close game. With both teams being heavy running teams that play strong defense, I look for the game to end up going very low scoring! The current line is set at 44 so I will play this game under the posted total for 2 units!
