West Ham United will be keen to earn their first point since the beginning of Project Restart when they take on London rivals Chelsea at the London Stadium on Wednesday, 1 July 2020.
The Hammers achieved a surprising 1-0 victory when both sides met earlier this season, with Aaron Cresswell scoring for West Ham to seal their first win at the Stamford Bridge for 17 years.
West Ham United Betting Preview
The Hammers are in desperate need of points as their battle against Premier League relegation continues. However, David Moyes' side have lost all of their games since the Premier League resumed and more disappointingly, they're yet to score since a 3-1 victory over Southampton on 29 February.
West Ham United's struggle continues as the East London outfit are 17th in the Premier League table, on 27 points and above the likes of Aston Villa and Bournemouth due to goal difference only. Back-to-back 2-0 defeats to Wolves and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur since the restart means the Hammers need to start winning points as soon as possible.
Robert Snodgrass is injured and has been ruled out for several weeks already, while Arthur Masuaku (twisted ankle) and Sebastien Haller (hip injury) are both doubts.
Center-back Angelo Ogbonna is expected to return and his presence could be a boost for the Hammers and he should start alongside Issa Diop at the expense of Fabian Balbuena.
Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini are both pushing for starts here, though David Moyes could name the same midield that started against Spurs last time out (with Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen on both flanks).
Chelsea Betting Preview
Frank Lampard's Chelsea have won their last five matches across all competitions, including their three matches since football in England returned to action.
The Blues remain in the top four and while their European future doesn't seem to be really bright for the remainder of the campaign (they trail 3-0 to Bayern Munich before the second leg), Frank Lampard's men are devoted to qualify for next season's Champions League, when the squad will be more experienced and mature.
All in all, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches, winning four of them since a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in mid-February. Indeed, Frank Lampard's side can strengthen their top four status and even climb to third place (if Leicester City fail to beat Everton early on Wednesday) with a fourth successive league victory, having beaten Aston Villa and Manchester City (both 2-1) since the English top-flight resumed.
Chelsea have also progressed to the FA Cup semi-finals after a 1-0 victory at Leicester City on Sunday, where they'll face Manchester United.
Fikayo Tomori and Callum Hudson-Odoi are still working on their match fitness and will likely miss out, while Andreas Christensen is questionable as the Denmark defender complains of a hip issue, so Kurt Zouma may feature alongside Antonio Rudiger at center-back.
Christian Pulisic, who scored in back-to-back games for the first time since he joined Chelsea last summer, was forced off with a calf injury in the FA Cup triumph over Leicester and will reportedly miss the clash against West Ham, while Ross Barkley could be rewarded with a start after netting the winner at the King Power Stadium.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Olivier Giroud are among the options to refresh Chelsea's lineup in midweek, as they were left on the bench in the weekend.
Jorginho has not played since the 2-0 FA Cup victory against Liverpool and the Italian is in contention with N'Golo Kante, who started in all games since football resumed.
With Pulisic sidelined, Mason Mount could keep his starting spot, though Pedro is another option for Frank Lampard's attack.
Possible Starting Lineups of West Ham United and Chelsea
West Ham United: Lukasz Fabianski – Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell – Declan Rice – Jarrod Bowen, Mark Noble, Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals – Michail Antonio. (4-1-4-1)
Chelsea: Kepa Arrizabalaga – Marcos Alonso, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta – Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ross Barkley – Mason Mount, Olivier Giroud, Willian. (4-3-3)
Spooky Express Betting Prediction
West Ham can take some confidence from the fact they have only lost to Chelsea once in their last five encounters, but with their form being so poor right now, we must also highlight that West Ham have lost all three of their home London derbies in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have won their last three Premier League away London derbies and are -164 favorites to claim another one on Wednesday. They last had a longer such run between April and November 2009, with four.
In addition to an importance of a major city rivalry, both sides have their reasonable arguments to play for the win and we expect some goals at the London Stadium.
