The Monday night tilt is not super popular among German fans but supporters of RB Leipzig and FC Koln will be watching intently as their teams need to right the ship at RheinEnergieStadion in the final game of Matchweek 28.
Leipzig had a chance to take over second place but suffered a surprise 2-2 draw Wednesday at home after an 82nd minute penalty and will be without red-carded Marcel Halstenberg as they travel to Cologne. The Billy Goats got dominated Wednesday by Hoffenheim 3-1 and also lost Sebastiaan Bornauw to a red card.
On November 23 these teams met in Leipzig and the Red Bulls cruised to a 4-1 win as Markus Gisdol made his Koln managerial debut. Timo Werner, Emil Forsberg and Konrad Laimer gave the hosts a 3-0 lead within 37 minutes before Rafael Czichos pegged one back for the Billy Goats. Forsberg finished the scoring in the 79th minute as Red Bull dominated the game with 69% possession.
RB Leipzig Betting Preview: Turn It Back On
While the Red Bulls were unfortunate not to win Wednesday, they also got help from a massive goalkeeping mistake to take the 2-1 lead after going down to 10-men. Despite the 2-2 draw, they remain in third place in the table thanks to Matchweek 27 losses from Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen.
With the draw, the Red Bulls have gone 10 straight without a loss in all competitions and haven’t suffered a league loss since January 25. The defense had only allowed two goals in nine games before allowing two on Wednesday to Hertha. Keeper Peter Gulacsi has 12 clean sheets on the season and RB has actually taken more points on the road this season (28) then they have at home (27).
FC Koln Betting Preview: Avoid Relegation Battle
Koln went to Hoffenheim mid week and lost 3-1 with Florian Kainz striking in the 60th minute to avoid the shutout. The Billy Goats are much better at home on the season with six wins and three draws in 14 games. Overall they are in 11th place with 34 points, just seven points above the relegation playoff.
Koln have taken points from their last three home games and from six of the last eight games overall, including four wins. On the season Jhon Cordoba leads the Billy Goats with 12 total goals, 11 in league play. Timo Horn has played all 27 league matches this season with six clean sheets. Koln play a physical style and are top three in the Bundesliga in both fouls committed and yellow cards drawn.
RB Leipzig v. FC Koln Betting Lines
Bovada has Leipzig -180 to win, Koln +450 to win, Draw at +340 and the O/U is 3.5 goals.
Leipzig have only made two trips to Koln in their Bundesliga history and have come home with a 2-1 win (2017) and a 1-1 draw (2016). Despite stubbing their toe midweek, look for RB to right the ship in their version of Monday Night Football and head east with all three points as Werner finds the back of the net at least once.
