Leeds United's promotion quest continues on Sunday, 12 July 2020, when Marcelo Bielsa's side will head to face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
The Swans snatched a 1-0 victory when both sides met at Elland Road in August as Wayne Routledge scored a late winner.
Swansea are unbeaten in four home matches against Leeds, winning three of them. Their most recent meeting at Liberty Stadium was a 2-2 draw in August 2018.
Swansea Betting Preview
Swansea City have won back-to-back games for the first time since December and have climbed to seventh place as a result, only a point behind their Welsh rivals Cardiff City.
The Swans have spent seven consecutive seasons in the Premier League until their relegation in 2018 and will be eager to return there through this season's play-offs. However, they need to be extremely convincing in the remaining four rounds of the regular season if they are to reach the top-six and secure one of the playoff spots.
Steve Cooper's side will face fifth-placed Nottingham Forest (away) – just a few days after their home match against current leaders Leeds United before they play two midtable sides in the last two rounds – Bristol City and Reading, so a positive result against Leeds could boost their chances.
Steve Cooper could be looking to freshen up the defensive line and Mike van der Hoorn is expected to start.
Andre Ayew scored his 14th goal of the Championship campaign to seal Swansea City's 2-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and the 30-years-old Ghananian forward will represent one of the biggest threats to Leeds' defense.
Liverpool loanee Rhian Brewster also scored in Swansea City's victory against Sheffield Wednesday, as well as in the 3-1 win at Birmingham in midweek. The talented England U21 international bagged 8 goals in 16 Championship appearances since he joined Swansea City on a season-long deal in January and will be keen to add more to his tally.
Midfielder Jordan Garrick is available after completing his suspension (he was sent off in the 1-0 defeat to Luton last month), but centre-backs Ben Wilmot and Joe Rodon both remain sidelined due to injuries.
Leeds United Betting Preview
Marcelo Bielsa's side enjoyed a five-star triumph (5-0) against Stoke City on Thursday, winning two in a row for the first time since football resumed. The Whites have scored eight goals in these two matches and 12 in their last four since losing 2-0 at Cardiff City in their first game after the break.
Leeds United may not have the best attacking record in the Championship (they have the third best attack with 68 goals, after Brentford – 75 and WBA – 73), but that's apparently not an issue, as they've definitely scored enough to take the pole position with only four games left to play.
All in all, The West Yorkshire club are top of the Championship table, one point above West Bromwich Albion and six points above third-placed Brentford, meaning that they need to collect seven points in the remaining games (if we assume that Brentford win all of their games in the meantime) to secure their Premier League return.
It's no surprise that the Championship leaders can boast the second best away record – winning 11 and drawing four of their 21 away games – and they have obviously found the right balance to be convincing enough when playing either home or away.
Kiko Casilla still serves an eight-match suspension, so the 20-years-old Frenchman Illan Meslier should remain in goal for Leeds.
Don't expect wholesale changes by Bielsa here, not after Leeds' midweek performance, but Spanish veteran Pablo Hernandez could replace Tyler Roberts in midfield.
Patrick Bamford has scored in back-to-back games for the first time since December and Leeds United's top goal scorer (16 goals in 41 matches) should once again lead the line. The 26-years-old Englishman enjoys his most prolific season since 2014-15, when he scored 17 goals in 38 Championship appearances for Middlesbrough.
Possible Starting Lineups of Swansea and Leeds United
Swansea: Freddie Woodman – Ben Cabango, Marc Guehi, Mike van der Hoorn – Connor Roberts, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes, Jake Bidwell – Conor Gallagher – Andre Ayew, Rhian Brewster. (3-4-1-2)
Leeds United: Illan Meslier – Stuart Dallas, Ben White, Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling – Kalvin Phillips – Jack Harrison, Mateusz Klich, Pablo Hernandez, Helder Costa – Patrick Bamford. (4-1-4-1)
Spooky Express Betting Prediction
The upcoming clash at the Liberty Stadium is of massive, massive importance for both sides and whereas the Swans must aim for the whole set of points if they want to push their top-six ambition further, we believe that a draw would be an acceptable outcome for Marcelo Bielsa's plan.
Moreover, Leeds have two home matches against relegation threatened sides – Barnsley and Charlton, as well as a visit to Derby County, who also have their top-six ambitions, so of course a victory at Swansea City is the most desired result, but a draw could eventually be accepted.
Swansea have won only two of their last six home games (2-2-2) in the English Championship and Leeds are considered -149 favorites to earn another important victory on their way on a long awaited Premier League return. The Swans, on the other hand, are priced at +340 to win, while the draw is available at +265 with Intertops.
