Bournemouth vs Liverpool Prediction, Odds & Best Bets: Iraola Returns to the Vitality Stadium
Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola makes an emotional return to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday when the Reds visit the Bournemouth side he transformed into European qualifiers last season.
Well, the timing makes the reunion even more intriguing. Bournemouth return from San Sebastian after winning 2-1 against Real Sociedad in their first-ever European match, while Liverpool had two extra days to prepare after eliminating Tottenham 3-1 from the League Cup with a heavily rotated starting XI.
Neither side has found consistency in the Premier League, though. Bournemouth remain winless under Marco Rose (0-3-1 record), while Liverpool are unbeaten but have also drawn three of their opening four league matches.
H2H: Bournemouth vs Liverpool
Liverpool have historically dominated this tie, winning 20 of the 26 competitive meetings, compared with three Bournemouth victories and three draws. In Premier League action alone, the Reds hold a 14-3-1 record.
Recent meetings have become considerably more competitive, though. Liverpool earned an entertaining 4-2 at Anfield in August 2025, but Bournemouth responded with a memorable 3-2 victory at the Vitality Stadium in January. That result ended a run of four successive Liverpool league victories in the matchup.
Six or more goals were scored in both meetings last season, which is another reason Sunday’s goal markets deserve considerable attention, in our opinion.
Bournemouth – Current Form and Team News
Marco Rose is still looking for his first Premier League victory as Bournemouth manager, but performances have generally been better than the results suggest.
The Cherries have lost only once in four league games, drawing the other three, and have developed a frustrating tendency to surrender winning positions. They again let a lead slip in last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Brentford despite registering 20 shots and ten attempts on target.
Thursday finally brought a major breakthrough. Justin Kluivert and Rayan scored inside the opening 20 minutes as Bournemouth defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 in San Sebastián. Rose praised his team’s intensity and described the performance as recognizable “Bournemouth football,” although goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic was required to make important late saves after the La Liga side improved after halftime.
The concern is the turnaround. Bournemouth played in Spain on Thursday night and now face Liverpool less than 72 hours later, while their opponents rotated heavily on Tuesday.
Nevertheless, an attacking quartet of Rayan, Justin Kluivert, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson should continue to provide Rose’s main attacking threat.
Liverpool – Current Form and Team News
Liverpool’s Premier League efforts and results under Iraola remain a work in progress.
The Reds have won only once in their opening four league matches (a 2-0 win at newly-promoted Ipswich Town) but remain unbeaten, drawing the other three against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Fulham. Last weekend’s 0-0 against Fulham at Anfield was particularly disappointing, with Iraola admitting his side lacked freshness and criticizing aspects of their pressing.
Last week’s Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid and Tuesday’s League Cup performance against Spurs (both at Anfield, thoug) were far more encouraging.
Iraola changed virtually his entire lineup against Tottenham, retaining only Ronald Araujo from the previous starting XI, yet Liverpool still won 3-1 through goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai’s rocket strike.
That rotation could be crucial for the south coast journey on Sunday. Captain Virgil van Dijk and Florian Wirtz were given complete rests, while Alisson Becker remained an unused substitute. Alexander Isak also played only a couple of minutes and should return to lead the line at the Vitality Stadium.
Gakpo’s return is another boost. The Dutch forward scored and assisted against Tottenham after missing the Fulham draw and has started the season in impressive attacking form.
The biggest Liverpool selection question may be whether Iraola partners Mac Allister with Szoboszlai or restores Ryan Gravenberch, while Gakpo’s performance against Tottenham makes him difficult to drop out.
The Merseysiders remain without long-term absentees Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike as well as Federico Chiesa.
Possible Starting XIs of Bournemouth and Liverpool
Bournemouth: Djordje Petrovic – Adam Smith, James Hill, Antonio Silva, Adrien Truffert – Tyler Adams, Alex Scott – Rayan, Justin Kluivert, Marcus Tavernier – Evanilson. (4-2-3-1)
Liverpool: Alisson – Ronald Araujo, Jeremy Jacquet, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez – Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai – Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola – Alexander Isak. (4-2-3-1)
Bournemouth vs Liverpool Betting Odds and Prediction
EveryGame prices Bournemouth at +195, the draw at +265, and Liverpool as +110 favorites.
To be fair, there is certainly an argument for simply backing Liverpool on the moneyline bets. If anybody knows how Bournemouth want to play, it should be Iraola. The Basque coach constructed much of the tactical identity and personnel base Rose inherited, and he will know exactly where Bournemouth’s aggressive press can leave spaces behind it.
Yet Liverpool have hardly looked reliable enough to make +110 an automatic best bet pick. The Reds remain seriously vulnerable when opponents break through the initial press, while Bournemouth have already scored in all four Premier League matches and twice away against Real Sociedad.
Consequently, the more appealing route is therefore to protect Liverpool against another draw while combining that with expectations for a high-scoring encounter at the Vitality.
Best Bet: Liverpool or Draw (X2) and Over 2.5 Goals (-110 at EveryGame)
Liverpool have not lost under Iraola yet, while Bournemouth’s aggressive approach should produce opportunities at both ends. The Cherries’ Thursday-to-Sunday turnaround is another factor that could become increasingly important as the game progresses.
Alexander Isak is +130 to score anytime. The Swedish forward already has three goals from his first four Premier League appearances, and even though that price feels relatively short, Isak’s ability to .
The more interesting speculative option could be at the other end. Rayan scored Bournemouth’s second goal against Sociedad and also in the League Cup win over Lincoln City earlier this month. The 20-year-old Brazilian attacker remains one of their most explosive transition threats. Given Liverpool’s occasional problems defending space continuing this season, +250 offers more upside than Isak’s much shorter number.
Value Bet: Rayan Anytime Goalscorer (+250 at EveryGame)
