Burnley vs Leeds United

Turf Moor will be the venue of a top-of-the-table Championship clash on Monday night, January 27th, when Burnley takes on Leeds United.

Both clubs will be eager to extend their unbeaten streaks, with the Clarets having avoided defeat in 16 consecutive matches, while Leeds boast 11 games without a loss.

The Clarets earned a 1-0 victory over Leeds United earlier this season (mid-September) as Luca Koleosho’s first-half winner made the difference at Elland Road. Yet, that remains their only win in the last six meetings with Leeds, who have won four of them, including a penalty-shootout win in the Carabao Cup in September 2017.

Burnley Betting Preview

The Clarets welcome Championship leaders Leeds United on the back of a 5-0 victory at Plymouth Argyle last Wednesday. Thus, Burnley extended their unbeaten streak to 16 games in all competitions – since a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall in early November, which remains their only defeat in 26 games.

Burnley have experienced a rollercoaster of promotions and relegations in recent seasons. Relegated from the Premier League in both 2021-22 and 2023-24, they managed to secure an immediate promotion in the 2022-23 season. Determined to return to the top flight again, the Clarets have been strong under Scott Parker, who took charge in July 2024.

Scott Parker’s side are aiming to claim automatic promotion to the Premier League and a league double over Leeds will mean the Clarets will significantly boost their hopes. Over halfway through the campaign, they remain firmly in the top-two race.

Burnley’s impressive record of 56 points has come from 15 wins, 11 draws, and just two defeats. This leaves them only three points behind their current opponents, and a victory in this match would see them draw level at the top of the table. Furthermore, the Clarets have also been formidable at Turf Moor, where they remain unbeaten in the Championship this term, securing six wins and seven draws from 13 games.

Burnley remain without long-term injuries Aaron Ramsey and Jordan Beyer, while Nathan Redmond and Manuel Benson have returned to first-team training but remain doubtful for selection. Following their emphatic 5-0 win over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park, Scott Parker may stick with a similar lineup.

Zian Flemming, who netted twice in the last victory, is expected to lead the attack once again. The Dutch forward has bagged five goals in his last four appearances in all competitions.

Leeds United Betting Preview

The Whites are eager to return to the Premier League after their relegation in the 2022-23 season. Leeds United narrowly missed out on automatic promotion last term, finishing six points behind the top two after winning just one of their final six fixtures. However, they have responded strongly this season and are currently top of the Championship table with 59 points from 28 games, consisting of 17 wins, eight draws, and three defeats.

Leeds had a shaky start to the season, winning only two of their opening six matches across all competitions. However, they have lost just two of their subsequent 24 games, showcasing superb form. Daniel Farke’s side head into this match unbeaten in their last 11 outings, having also kept clean sheets in their previous three matches. This solid defensive record will boost their confidence as they face a direct competitor in the promotion race.

A victory for Leeds would extend their lead to four points over second-placed Sheffield United, who suffered a surprising 3-0 loss to Hull City on Friday night. A win would also see Leeds pull six points clear of Burnley, strengthening their position at the summit of the table as they push for promotion.

Leeds United will be without defender Pascal Struijk and centre-forward Patrick Bamford. Meanwhile, Ilia Gruev made a long-anticipated return following knee surgery but the Bulgarian midfielder may have to settle for a place on the bench as Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka have established solid partnership in central midfield during his absence.

Elsewhere, captain Ethan Ampadu is expected to retain his place in central defense, while Joel Piroe will lead the attack. Daniel James and Manor Solomon, who both scored in Leeds’ recent 2-0 victory over Norwich City, are likely to start from the wide positions, keeping Largie Ramazani as a substitute.
