Espanyol vs Sevilla Prediction

Espanyol vs Sevilla Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips – September 6, 2026

Espanyol and Sevilla meet at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday evening, September 6th, in one of the most balanced games of La Liga’s fourth round.

Both teams enter the weekend looking for a response. Espanyol followed an emphatic 3-0 opening success over Levante with 2-1 defeats against Real Madrid and Real Sociedad, while Sevilla’s perfect start ended in a 3-1 home loss to Atletico Madrid. Every one of their six combined league fixtures this season has produced at least three goals (Over 2.5), making another open game reasonable to envisage.

H2H: Espanyol vs Sevilla

Recent history belongs overwhelmingly to Sevilla. Espanyol have won only one of the last 14 competitive meetings, drawing four and losing nine, while their victory in last season’s home fixture remains their only success across Sevilla’s last seven visits to the RCDE Stadium. The Catalans won that game 2-1, before Sevilla ‘returned the favor’ by the same scoreline in May.

The scoring pattern is more relevant to our selections. Both teams have found the net in six of the last seven meetings, and Sevilla have scored in 16 consecutive league H2Hs against Espanyol. The Andalusians may have dominated this matchup, but the Periquitos’ broader record on their own ground is much healthier: Espanyol have won 40 of the 76 all-time home meetings between the clubs.

That tension between recent H2H superiority and home-field resistance is another reason to prefer goals over a match-winner bet. La Grada’s H2H breakdown (a page dedicated to Espanyol) also notes that Espanyol have scored in 84% of their home meetings with Sevilla.

Espanyol – Current Form and Team News

Manolo Gonzalez’s team could hardly have started better, sweeping Levante aside 3-0 as Roberto Fernandez struck twice before Tyrhys Dolan completed the scoring. The level has dropped since then, although back-to-back 2-1 losses do not tell identical stories. Espanyol competed well against Real Madrid and were denied by a last-minute goal, but they were far less convincing at Anoeta.

They struggled with Real Sociedad’s press and repeatedly left themselves exposed after losing possession. Roberto still equalized from Javi Hernández’s excellent delivery, only for the Basques to find a second-half winner.

Returning to the RCDE Stadium is significant. Espanyol’s only two defeats across their last six home league games came against Real Madrid, and González will hope for a reaction in his 100th official match in charge. He can restore experienced center-back Leandro Cabrera after suspension, but Kike García and captain Javi Puado remain sidelined.

Deadline arrivals Andoni Gorosabel and Bryan Zaragoza are expected to enter the matchday squad, although neither is likely to start. The most important attacking connection remains Javi Hernández and Roberto: the former has supplied an assist in each of his first three La Liga appearances, while the latter already has three goals.

Sevilla – Current Form and Team News

Sevilla still travel with six points from nine after beating Rayo Vallecano 2-1 and Athletic Bilbao 3-1. The San Mames victory demonstrated their efficiency rather than territorial control – the ten-man Bilbao had 65% possession and 18 attempts, yet Luis García’s side were decisive whenever space opened up. Isaac Romero contributed a goal and an assist, while the pace around him gave Sevilla a clear counterattacking threat.

That same approach could trouble an Espanyol side whose coach was furious about conceding twice in transition at Anoeta. Sevilla have averaged only 41.8% possession through three rounds, but they are comfortable defending without the ball and breaking quickly.

Their own defensive ceiling remains the concern, though. Diego Simeone’s Atleti scored three times before halftime last weekend, Sevilla have conceded in all three league games this term, and their last 16 La Liga away fixtures have yielded only one clean sheet.

García admitted that his team needed to become much more difficult to play against defensively, even though he was pleased with the chances they created in the 3-1 loss.

Meanwhile, domestic media reported that deadline signings Youssouf Fofana, Félix Correia and Lucas Stassin should all make the squad, but their minutes remain uncertain. Switzerland international Rubén Vargas is also a doubt for the away side.

Possible Starting XIs of Espanyol and Sevilla

Espanyol vs Sevilla Betting Odds and Prediction

The Catalans are slight +120 favorites at EveryGame, with the draw available at +210 and Sevilla at +225, but the early-season evidence makes the goals markets more attractive than trying to separate the sides.

In our opinion, the clearest angle is Both Teams to Score – Yes at +100. Sevilla have scored in 16 straight league meetings with Espanyol, both teams have scored in six of the last seven H2Hs, and the visitors are yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Espanyol, meanwhile, have scored in every league game and carry one of the division’s in-form forwards in Roberto Fernandez (three goals in as many appearances).

There is bigger value in Over 2.5 Goals at +130. All three matches played by each side this season have cleared the line, and five of the six have seen both teams score. We should not assume that an early-season streak will continue indefinitely, but +130 implies a break-even probability of only 43.5%. Sevilla’s transition threat, combined with the defensive openings both teams displayed last weekend, gives the Over 2.5 enough paths to cash.
