Chelsea vs Brighton

Match winner odds: Chelsea -125 | Draw +285 | Brighton +260

Blues boss Xabi Alonso won Monday’s meeting of former Real Madrid managers, guiding Chelsea to a 3-2 West London derby victory over Alvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham. Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and summer signing Morgan Rogers all scored, immediately showing why their attacking partnership looks so promising. Alonso then made it two wins from two with Thursday’s 2-0 League Cup victory over Jack Wilshere’s Luton Town, with veteran Danny Welbeck scoring on debut. Sunday brings his first Premier League home game, although the cup clean sheet does not alter Chelsea’s worrying run of 17 league matches without one.

Brighton have also enjoyed an extremely productive week. After thumping Unai Emery’s Aston Villa 4-0, they repeated that scoreline against Norwegian side Tromso on Thursday to secure Conference League qualification. While Fabian Hurzeler’s men face a Thursday-to-Sunday turnaround, they have won eight of their last 13 Premier League matches. Moreover, their four consecutive victories over Chelsea across all venues make the hosts’ -125 price difficult to embrace outright.

Chelsea have won just one of their last seven home league games, although three of the last four Stamford Bridge meetings with Brighton went their way. Potential absence for key midfielder Moises Caiced remains a concern as Enzo Fernandez’s exit also looms, while Brighton’s injury list includes Yankuba Minteh, who has reportedly been among Liverpool’s summer targets.

Chelsea or Draw (1X) combined with over 2.5 Goals at +115 remains our best pick for Sunday’s clash. The Blues’ promising attack supports them getting a result, but Brighton’s momentum and Chelsea’s defensive vulnerabilities make backing the hosts outright less appealing. A Chelsea victory with at least three total goals or a draw of 2-2 or higher would still land the bet.

First-half – Over 1.5 Goals at +135 also has a clearer statistical hook now: Brighton scored all four against Villa before the break and three first-half goals against Tromso. That is encouraging evidence, with Chelsea’s visit to Craven Cottage also seeing three goals at half-time.

Best Bet: Chelsea or Draw (1X) and Over 2.5 Goals +115

Value Pick: First-Half Over 1.5 Goals +135

Leeds United vs Brentford

Match winner odds: Leeds +150 | Draw +225 | Brentford +160

Leeds have already beaten Nottingham Forest twice this season, following Saturday’s late 1-0 league victory with a 2-0 League Cup success at the City Ground on Tuesday. Two wins and two clean sheets against a tricky Premier League opposition give Daniel Farke a solid start, even allowing for the small sample. Their longer-term record is persuasive too. Since the start of December, only five Premier League teams have collected more than Leeds’ 39 points, and only three have bettered their 24 at home. They now seek consecutive opening league victories for the first time since Marcelo Bielsa’s 2018/19 campaign (in the Championship, though).

Brentford also arrive with two wins, following their 3-0 defeat of Tottenham with a 6-1 Cup rout of Birmingham on Tuesday. Nine goals across those fixtures demonstrate their attacking confidence, although Championship opposition in the Cup offered a different test. Their away league record provides the counterargument: they finished last season without a win in six road trips, drawing three and losing three. One of those draws came at Elland Road, where Leeds are unbeaten in their last eight meetings with the Bees. Five ended level, including the most recent three, while four of the six Premier League encounters have also been drawn.

Leeds Draw No Bet at -118 is the preferred pick. Their home record and encouraging defensive start give Farke’s team a reasonable edge, while the repeated draws and Brentford’s scoring form argue for keeping the stalemate covered. A Leeds victory wins the bet; a draw returns the stake.

Meanwhile, Harry Wilson’s seven career goals against Brentford give the hosts another point of interest, although Gabriel Gudmundsson and Wilfried Gnonto are expected to remain unavailable. Brentford are still missing centre-back Sepp van den Berg, while Keane Lewis-Potter arrives after scoring against Spurs. There is enough attacking quality to threaten Leeds, but backing the visitors requires their away league form to improve.

Best Bet: Leeds United Draw No Bet -118

Sunderland vs Fulham

Match winner odds: Sunderland +135 | Draw +215 | Fulham +190

After qualifying for the Europa League in their first season back, Sunderland face the challenge of sustaining those high standards. A late concession in a 2-1 defeat at newly promoted Ipswich was an uncomfortable start, and avoiding second-season syndrome will be a central concern for Regis Le Bris. One result does not establish a decline, but a quiet summer and the demands ahead make a response important. Returning to the Stadium of Light offers that opportunity, although the Black Cats have not beaten Fulham in their last six home top-flight meetings, a sequence stretching back to January 2009.

Fulham responded to their 3-2 opening defeat against Chelsea by beating AFC Wimbledon 3-0 on Thursday, giving Álvaro Arbeloa his first competitive victory. He made ten changes, so the short turnaround should not automatically be treated as a major fatigue disadvantage. Sunderland entered no midweek League Cup tie, joining the competition in round three because of their European commitments. Fulham’s away league record remains concerning: they have collected only seven points on their travels this calendar year, the fewest among clubs present throughout that period. They have also won their opening away league fixture in just two of the previous nine campaigns.

Sunderland at +135 remains a tentative home selection, with Fulham’s away difficulties providing the clearest reason to oppose the visitors. Of course, Fulham’s cup response against Wimbledon and unbeaten head-to-head run keep confidence modest, while Simon Adingra’s continued absence is another drawback for the hosts. Brian Brobbey could be influential, though, especially after the break, when all seven of his Sunderland goals have arrived.

Over 2.5 goals at -105 is a separate alternative: both sides conceded at least twice in their league opener, and Fulham have shown attacking promise in both competitions. Their cup clean sheet offers slight encouragement, but keeping out Wimbledon does not establish that their Premier League defensive issues are resolved.

Best Bet: Sunderland to Win +135

Alternative Pick: Over 2.5 Goals -105

Manchester United vs Ipswich Town

Match winner odds: Manchester United -278 | Draw +375 | Ipswich +550

Sunday’s late kick-off gives Manchester United an immediate chance to repair the damage from their 2-0 defeat at the hands of promoted Hull City. Michael Carrick’s side now face another newly promoted opponent, having failed to beat one in three attempts under his management. That is a small sample, but enough to challenge any assumption that this will be straightforward. The stronger argument for United is their Old Trafford record: eight wins from nine home games under Carrick last season. Their last four home meetings with Ipswich also produced four victories and an 18-2 aggregate score.

Ipswich followed their late 2-1 win over Sunderland with Tuesday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup success against Leicester City. Gary O’Neil made nine changes, so the Tractor Boys gained another victory without fielding the same starting XI.

Julio Enciso offers a threat after impressing against Sunderland, while five of his previous six Premier League goals came away from home.

United, on the other hand, need to assess Mason Mount and Amad Diallo, while new signing Carlos Baleba arrives with an ankle injury and cannot automatically be treated as an immediate solution.

The Red Devils to win and over 2.5 goals at -105 is preferable to the short -278 outright price, provided the extra scoring condition is accepted. Their last six home matches all produced at least three goals and saw both teams score, supporting a scenario in which Ipswich contribute (yet, if Ipswich contribute you may well take a risk to claim the higher odds of Man United + BTS) but United’s home strength proves decisive. Bryan Mbeumo could return to a central role after recording two goals and an assist in his previous two appearances against the Tractor Boys.

First-half Over 1.5 Goals is an additional bet, although the full-match scoring trend does not establish when those goals will arrive. Yet, we expect strong and passionate start from United after their dreadful first-half at Hull City last weekend.

Best Bet: Manchester United to Win and Over 2.5 Goals -105

Value Pick: First-Half Over 1.5 Goals +130
