UFC Fight Night 106 Betting Picks & Predictions
Earl has some picks, predictions and previews for the UFC Fight Night 106 event taking place on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Good luck and let's win some MMA bets!
Another winning week in the UFC last week for the Spooky Express as we went 2-1 overall. Lost the Rashad Evans fight by a decision but won Mark Godbeer and the Tyson Pedro vs. Paul Craig Fight UNDER 1.5 Rounds.
This week, we switch gears and head out to Brazil for UFC Fight Night 106. A unique aspect of this week is that every single fight has a Brazilian with home town advantage. Pay close attention to when the fighters fly into Brazil and where the fighters are flying in from. Long distance travelers never do well in Brazil.
Edson Barboza vs. Beneil Dariush
Edson Barboza will be making his 17th fight inside the Octagon. He is 18-4 overall and 12-4 in the UFC. His last 3 wins all come by decision and 7 out of his last 10 fights have all been decided by decision. Barboza has some of the hardest leg kicks in the sport and world class striking under the tutelage of Mark Henry.
Beneil Dariush is on a 2 fight win streak and winner of 7 of the past 8 fights. His only loss in that span was against Mike Chiesa, where he got caught in a choke in the second round. Dariush is 14-2 overall and 8-2 in the UFC.
Both of these fighters are as tough as they come in the UFC’s lightweight division. I can make a argument for Barboza to win and I can make an argument for Dariush to win. The one thing I can’t make an argument for is either getting a win by stoppage. I think this fight will go the distance and over 2.5 rounds.
- Pick: Barboza vs. Dariush Over 2.5 Rounds for 3 Units at -190
Rony Jason vs. Jeremy Kennedy
Rony Jason is a 7 fight UFC veteran with a record of 14-6 overall. He has only won 1 fight out of his last 5 dating back to 2013. Jason struggles with wrestlers as seen in his last fight against Dennis Bermudez.
Jeremy Kennedy made his UFC debut in his last fight against fellow newcomer Alex Ricci. Kennedy dominated that fight winning a unanimous decision by dictating where the fight would take place and utilizing his grappling skills to force Ricci backwards against the cage. Kennedy is now 9-0 overall and looking to go 10-0 with a win over Rony Jason.
Jeremy Kennedy is a BJJ Purple Belt. Rony Jason is a BJJ Black Belt. For those that don’t know the difference, that is a two level advantage(belt) for Jason! See a problem there if this fight goes to the ground? Most people will see that and immediately play Rony Jason. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND! The one thing that Jeremy Kennedy does very well is use his wrestling to press his opponent against the cage and dirty box while in the clinch. Kennedy should have a size advantage in this fight as his last fight was at 155lbs and this fight is at 145lbs. With that size advantage, it will only help him control Rony Jason and force him backwards. As we stated earlier, Rony Jason has struggled against wrestlers so this fight should be no different than his last!
- Pick: Jeremy Kennedy -106 for 3 Units
Michel Prazeres vs. Josh Burkman
Michel Prazeres is 21-2 overall and 5-2 in the UFC. In his last fight, Prazeres missed weight against Gilbert Burns but still earned a unanimous decision in the fight. Prazeres is on a 3 fight win streak and has won 5 out of the last 6. Prazeres has 2 blemishes on his record, both unanimous decision losses against Kevin Lee and Paulo Thiago.
Josh Burkman is in a downward spiral in his career. He has lost 2 in a row and has gone 2-6 in his last 8 fights overall. Burkman should have a 5 inch reach advantage and a 4 inch height advantage.
Prazeres will use his wrestling and grappling to alleviate the size advantage. Once the fight hits the ground, Prazeres will have the advantage as he is a BJJ Black Belt. I look for this fight to start out slow but Prazeres ending it before the end of the 2nd round.
- Pick: Michel Prazeres -235 for 3 Units
