It’s been a whirlwind few days for the NASCAR circuit. This will be the third race in a week for the drivers and their crews. They’ll be leaving Darlington, and heading for Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. This will be the 61st running of the Coca-Cola 600. The 400 lap race will be much longer than last Wednesday night’s 228 lap event at Darlington.
Here are some of the favorites, along with some sleeper picks for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.
Kyle Busch – 4/1
Busch was at the center of the controversy on Wednesday night in Darlington. After causing Chase Elliott to crash late in the race, Busch went on to finish second behind Denny Hamlin in Wednesday’s Toyota 500. Busch has one career victory at Charlotte, winning the 2018 Coca-Cola 600. Although he only has one victory, he has still finished in the top-five on 13 different occasions, so he knows how to handle this track.
Jimmie Johnson – 16/1
The Charlotte Motor Speedway belongs to Jimmie Johnson. He has eight career wins, along with 22 top-10 finishes at Charlotte. Although he is winless on the season, and has had some bad luck, he did finish eighth at the Toyota 500. Even with some bad luck at times, he has still finished in the top-10 in his last five starts. This track is one of his favorites, so look for big things from him on Sunday.
Martin Truex Jr. – 9/2
Truex has yet to win a race this season, so he’ll be anxious to get his first victory of 2020. Truex won the Coca-Cola 600 in 2016 and 2019. He has three career victories at Charlotte, and has finished in the top-5 in six of his last seven races here. Truex has yet to finish in the top five of any races this season, so coming off of a great 2019, he’ll look to get back on track here on Sunday.
Kevin Harvick – 11/2
The 2020 season has belonged to Kevin Harvick. He won last Sunday at Darlington, then finished third on Wednesday. Over his last five starts, he hasn’t finished outside of the top-10. With a win last Sunday at Darlington, and a third place finish last Wednesday, Harvick has put himself at the top of the driver standings. Along with having a successful 2020, Harvick has also had a successful career racing at Charlotte, as he has three career victories, along with eight top-10 finishes.
Erik Jones – 25/1
Jones is a trendy sleeper pick for Sunday’s race. Although Jones hasn’t had much success at Charlotte, he still looks like a good pick to finish at or near the top of the field on Sunday. Jones has finished in the top-10 in three of his last four races. With momentum going his way, we’re looking for big things from the Joe Gibbs racer on Sunday at Charlotte.
