The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will get underway this weekend, with the Daytona 500 on February 17, 2019 on FOX.

This is a historical event as it will be the final race with restrictor plates at Daytona.  Going forward, the drivers will have tapered spacers in the engine instead of restrictor plates.

There will be 40 drivers competing for the checkered flag on Sunday afternoon and looking to make the early statement in the NASCAR Cup Points.

This will be the first points race of 36 races in 2019.

Daytona 500 Starting Lineup

William Byron will have the pole after qualifying #1.  Byron earned his first even career pole and at 21 years old, this was a huge accomplishment for the youngster.

Alex Bowman will hold the 2nd place off the green flag.  Jimmie Johnson will start third and Chase Elliott will go 4th.  Check out all of the starting order below:

This year, there will be 8 previous Daytona 500 winners in the race, which consist of  Austin Dillon, Denny Hamlin, Jamie McMurray, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman.

Martin Truex Jr. +1800– Truex is also a former Cup Series Champion but has never won the Daytona 500.  Truex will be starting 11th this year and should have plenty of engine to get him to the front early in the race.  Truex won the 2017 Cup Series Title and finished 2nd last year. He has really been strong in the past 2 seasons and I expect another strong year from Truex, starting here at the Daytona 500. Truex has raced here 14 times, which is more than any other driver without a win, but I think it changes this year!

Aric Almirola +1500- Almirola has been the best plate driver over the past two years and he must be looked this week. Add in the fact that with one mile left last year, Almirola was in the lead headed for home when he wrecked and ended up losing the Daytona 500. He will be out for blood this year and consider it like being able to smell the steak cooking but not being able to taste it!  Almirola should be there again this year!

Jimmie Johnson +2500- Johnson had the 3rd fastest car in qualifying and if he can get out on the lead, we all know he can be tough to catch.  Johnson had a separation from his crew chief Chad Knaus so it will be interesting to see how he does this season.
