Lincoln, Alabama will be the site of this weekend’s NASCAR race, as one of the most famous tracks on the circuit, the Talladega Superspeedway will host the Geico 500.
Something that the drivers haven’t seen in a few months will occur this Sunday, as there will actually be fans in the stands for this weekend’s event. The capacity of the Talladega Superspeedway is listed at upwards of 80,000, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 5,000 fans will be allowed.
Talladega can be a very tough place for many of NASCAR’s top drivers, so take that into account when placing your bets. Let’s preview some of the drivers who have a strong chance of taking the checkered flag this Sunday at the Geico 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway.
Chase Elliott +800
After some early mishaps in the first few races of the return from the layoff, Elliott has raced well. Elliott also races well at Talladega. In his young career at Talladega that spans eight races, he has finished in the top five in three of them, and the top 10 in four of them. Look for Elliott to continue on his roll and contend for the title on Sunday.
Joey Logano +800
Logano loves racing at the superspeedways. He has compiled six top-five finishes in his last 10 races at superspeedways. In his last five races at Talladega, Logan has finished in the top five in four of them. With a win here in 2018, Logano knows what it takes to conquer the toughness of Talladega.
Brad Keselowski +1,000
With 11 straight top-15 finishes, Keselowski has been on a nice run. With five career victories in his 22 starts at Talladega, this is a place where he feels very comfortable. Keselowski will be there at the end.
Kevin Harvick +1,400
What a season it has already been for Harvick. With two victories, and six top-five finishes thus far, he has been arguably the best driver on the circuit. Harvick has vast experience here, as he has finished in the top 10 14 times at Talladega. With one win and three runner-up finishes, he knows what it takes to win at Talladega.
Jimmie Johnson +2,000
Although Talladega hasn’t been kind to Johnson throughout his career, he has been racing well this season and he’ll look to continue the trend on Sunday. He has two victories as part of his seven top-five finishes here. Could this finally be the time for Johnson to break through and take the checkered flag?
