ACB 86: Raisov vs. Balaev Handicapping
The feature fight for ACB 86 will be the main event between Marat Balaev and Yusup Raisov. This fight is scheduled for 5 x 5 minute rounds and will be for the ACB Featherweight Title. Both of these guys are highly touted prospects with a ton of potential. This fight was originally scheduled to take place on December 23, 2017 but Balaev was injured and forced to pull out of the fight.
Marat Balaev is an undefeated fighter from Russia that is 8-0. He comes into this fight at the ripe age of 42 years old with a wrestling heavy style of fighting. Balaev is a fighter that has fought half of his fights at 145lbs and half of his fights at 155lbs. He has dominated guys in wrestling at both weights in what many consider a boring style of fight. He takes guys down and forbids them from getting up. It will be one year since his last fight, which took place on 5/20/2017 against Adlan Bataev, who at the time was undefeated.
Yusup Raisov is 22 years old, 20 years younger than his opponent Balaev. He comes into this fight with a 12-1 record and on a 3 fight win streak. Raisov will be very dangerous for Balaev to take to the ground because out of his 12 victories, 7 of them come by submission. His only loss came back in 2016, when he dropped a fight against Marat Balaev by unanimous decision. Raisov is coming in to this fight as the more experienced fighter and is a heavy favorite at -335.
In this fight, I think Raisov is a much better fighter and even thought MMA math tells us that Balaev should win knowing that he beat Marat Balaev and Raisov lost to Marat Balaev, the style makes the fight and Balaev’s only real chance to win this fight is to take the fight to the ground and grind out a victory with his wrestling. That won’t work this fight because Raisov will look to submit him on the ground. I like Raisov as the heavy favorite here and will be playing him for 2 units.
Pick: Yusup Raisov -124 for 3 units
