Bellator 212 Handicapping

The feature fight that we are handicapping for our top bet on Bellator 212 is in the Heavyweight Division between Frank Mir and Javy Ayala. This fight is the co-main event and is scheduled for three, 5-minute rounds, however, it should not last more than one round.

Javy Ayala comes into this fight with a 10-7 record.  He is 30-years old and will be cutting weight to make the 266 LB heavyweight limit.  Ayala is coming off back-to-back losses against Cheick Kongo and Roy Nelson at Bellator 199 and Bellator 193.  Overall, he has gone 5-4 in Bellator and will be looking to add a big name to his resume by defeating former UFC Champion Frank Mir.

Frank Mir enters this fight with an 18-12 record. He is now 39-years old and has lost his last 3 fights and 7 of the last 9 fights overall.  In his last fight, Mir was KO’d in ugly fashion in his Bellator debut against longtime Heavyweight icon Fedor Emelianenko. Prior to that, he was KO’s by Mark Hunt in the first round.

Mir has gotten very “Chiny” as of late and it concerns me with the fact that Ayala is a big heavy hitter.  But the one thing that stands out here is Mir started out as the favorite and is now a slight underdog. There truly is no way in this world you can make Mir the underdog in this fight.  I think there is some decent value on Mir and if he can take this fight to the ground or get it up against the cage, I believe he can submit Ayala.

I’m fairly certain that is Mir’s gameplan, as he won’t want to stand up with Ayala due to the fact that he has been KO’d twice in his last 2 fights, both in the 1st round.  Mir takes this to the ground early in the first round and submits Ayala via armbar.

Free Pick: Frank Mir +118 for 3 units

Additional Bellator 212 Plays

Juliana Velasquez -210 over Alejandra Lara for 2 units – When you look at Alejandra Lara’s resume, it is blatantly obvious she was spoon fed in the lower ranks and it caught up to her when she got to the higher levels of MMA.  Velasquez is training out under the Nogueira Brothers in Brazil and has the experience from her gym alone to get her the win. I think she has the advantage no matter where the fight ends up and she gets the win at -210.

Misc. Notes on Bellator 212 Plays

Brent Primus vs. Michael Chandler – The odds for this fight first came out as Michael Chandler as a major underdog but I’m assuming someone pushed a wrong button because within a day, the odds were switched and now they are rightfully where they should be with Chandler being the heavy favorite. Chandler should win this fight but we can’t forget that Primus already beat him once and Primus at +431 is awfully tempting.  Primus is 8-0 with a 1st round stoppage of Chandler and a split decision over Derek Anderson. Chandler should win, Chandler should KO him, Chandler should make a statement but you won’t see me bet him at -500!

Derek Campos vs. Sam Sicilia – Campos is coming down from 155 to 145 for this fight. It will be interesting to see if he can retain his power at featherweight.  Sicilia has lost 4 of his last 5 fights and was finished in 3 of those 4 losses. Watch the weigh-ins to see how Campos looks but if he doesn’t lolookike the cut killed him, he may be someone to throw in a few parlays at -380.

AJ McKee vs. Daniel Crawford – Shame on Bellator for putting this fight on.  Point blank, I call it what it is and Daniel Crawford has no business being in the cage with AJ McKee.  This is going to be ugly, hence the reason AJ McKee is the -1500 favorite. McKee will win with ease but come on, stop feeding him cupcakes and let’s step up the competition already!
